There are a meaningful number of workers who desire less pay than they currently receive.
Since you’re probably scratching your head, we’ll start by explaining how we know. We know these workers exist because each month we ask thousands of workers for information about their pay and preferences, we confirm that information via phone, and then if there was any additional doubt, we send hundreds of workers on interviews with top builders all over the country. Those builders then negotiate (or don’t) with these workers.
Recently, we’ve tracked almost 400 workers (397 to be exact) who, when initially asked about wage preferences, reportered lower values for desired pay than they did for current pay.
Last month in our Q1 Craft Intelligence Report we observed an overall increase of 8% in worker pay expectations, so these workers stand in direct contrast to that overall trend.
