What is Skillit?

Skillit is on a mission to build a more personalized and rewarding hiring experience for everyone who builds our physical world. We’re creating the infrastructure for skilled trade hiring that enables fast, smooth and scalable construction recruitment globally. The Trade Recruiter product provides construction companies access to a rapidly growing database of qualified workers and a suite of worker-first hiring tools that use rich datasets and powerful algorithms to generate better outcomes.

Is Skillit a job board?

No. While Skillit does bring together skilled tradespeople and top construction companies, it is not a job board. There are no “job posts” in the traditional sense. At Skillit, employers can discover skilled tradespeople at any time and on an ongoing basis. With data-rich profiles we create matches so that the right person lands in the right role at the right company. This makes for happier careers and as a result, decreased turnover.

Is Skillit a hiring agency or headhunter?

No. Skillit is a community of skilled tradespeople showcasing their unique skills, abilities, and attributes to potential employers. Workers need not report the same information over and over again to apply to different jobs and firms. At Skillit, companies discover workers and offer opportunities to them.

Skillit is free for workers and charges construction firms a subscription fee based on usage of and access to our platform.

What trades can I hire through Skillit?

Currently, Skillit is used nationally to hire carpenters, drywallers, electricians, general laborers, heavy equipment operators, millwrights, pipefitters, pipelayers, solar installers, superintendents and welders of all skill levels. In the future Skillit will roll out support for all trades including, plumbers, wind turbine technicians ironworkers and more.

Is Skillit for contractors of all sizes?

In the future, contractors of all sizes will be able to hire workers through Skillit. At present however, Skillit offers its Trade Recruiter product to top ENR contractors only. Contact us here if you’re interested in speaking with us about options.

Is Skillit for workers or contractors?

Skillit is a worker-first platform and company. That means we are here to help workers find the best jobs possible so that they can advance their careers and do more for their families. How do I search for tradespeople on Skillit?

Recruiters who are onboarded as customers have the ability to search our worker network by filtering up to 200 critical attributes. Hiring managers can save searches for ongoing hiring needs.

Do you offer live support?

How do I unsubscribe from any of your mailing lists?

There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of all our emails.

Are the jobs on Skillit union?

Construction companies use Skillit to fill both union and non-union jobs. Interested employers can contact us here.

How does the matching process work?

Skillit collects and tracks a broad array of worker attributes. At present, over 200 data points feed into our process which combines a human touch with powerful software and algorithms. Companies can filter workers according to their exact needs and arrange interviews so that they can make confident hiring decisions. Workers can compare offers made through Skillit against one another so that they can see how one opportunity stacks up against another.

As a worker, why should I use Skillit?

Skillit enables workers to showcase themselves and their experience in a way that has not been possible. Gone are the days of filling out the same information over and over again for different jobs. With Skillit, the companies can find you. While we hope to find you a job that you can stick with for the long-haul, we are also there for you if things don’t work out. How do I create a worker profile?

Creating a profile is easy. Visit https://www.skillit.com/ to get started. After you provide your basic info, we will approve your application and set up a time for you to connect with one of our career guides via phone. This helps us learn a bit more about you and what you are looking for in a job.

As your career progresses you can share updates to be sure you secure the best and highest-paying jobs. Workers with the most complete profiles tend to get more and better job offers, so make sure to fill out as much as you can and to take Skillit’s assessments to showcase your skills.

What are my next steps after creating a worker profile?

Skillit is different from what you might be used to. We are NOT a temp agency or a recruiter. Once your profile is live companies will reach out to you, not the other way around. You can expect to hear from us to set up interviews when firms are interested in you, and we will connect you directly with hiring managers.

How can I manage my worker profile?

After creating a profile you will set a password that will enable access to your account. You can make changes to anything you like, and keep your experience up to date to ensure you receive the best possible offers from the contractors who use our platform.

How soon will I get work? How long does the process take?

You might be surprised how quickly the process can go.

Workers on Skillit have previously applied and talked to one of our worker success counselors in the morning and have received an interview request the same afternoon. While that’s not exactly the norm, we typically see the time between profile creation and interview request to average around 3 days.

It may take you longer, but demand for skilled tradespeople is high and our contractors are here because they need workers to hire.

My email address changed, how do I update this information in my worker profile?

Please log in to your existing account and make this update.

Will I need to travel for jobs on Skillit?

Generally speaking, no. We aim to find you great work near where you are, because presumably that’s where you want to be. We do offer jobs that require travel and we give you the option to indicate potential willingness to relocate. If you choose, we will show you great opportunities across the country so that you can go where where you decide to direct your career journey (and where money is). If you’re a per diem hunter we’ve also got you covered.

What is the best pay/salary/compensation I can expect to find on Skillit?

Compensation is location and role specific. Skillit offers transparency into pay and benefits by employer and by city so you can confidently compare one offer to another. With this information, you will be better equipped to make employment decisions.

Is per diem offered for worker roles on Skillit?

It depends. Some do, some don’t. We will show you which are which. Our aim is to open the world of possibilities so that you can choose the role that best fits your needs and desires.

How can I access my worker profile?

You can access your profile by logging in. at skillit.com. You can use your email address and password to make sure your profile is up to date.

How do I know which job opportunity is best for me?

Skillit provides you powerful tools with which you can compare one job to another. Whether you want to optimize for the highest pay, the best benefits, or the greatest growth opportunities, Skillit can will show you the information so that you can make an informed decision.

How do I search for job opportunities?

Skillit is different from the typical job board in that it is NOT a job baord. You do not need to search and apply for jobs. We’ve turned the tables so that employers can find you and reach out if they are interested. Once you set up your worker profile, you can expect to start hearing from interested employers. You can indicate to employers whether you are actively looking or are happy where you currently are. And you can change your status at any time.

How does the hiring process work?

Once your worker profile is live construction companies will come to you when they are interested. Based on your contact preference for phone, text, or email we will reach out to let you know that an employer wants to meet you. We will help you find a mutually agreeable time for an interview, but there isn’t much else to it since the employer will already have all your information. No more filling out the same application 10 times for 10 different companies or taking different assessments over and over and over again. With Skillit, companies know all about you before you even walk in the door or hop on the phone, so they can be confident that the conversation is worth having.

If I am happy with the job I have, can I stay on Skillit but let employers know that I am not currently looking?

Absolutely. We recommend that you always keep your profile live but indicate that you are happy where you are. Staying live means that if an employer really wants you, they can always reach out to you – and and it’s up to you whether you want to consider what they have to offer.

If I am looking for a new job, how do I indicate that on my profile?

If you are new to Skillit your profile will be tagged with a “new” icon for employers to know that you are actively looking. Later on, we recommend that those workers who are actively looking for new opportunities indicate it on their profiles.

As a construction company, why should I use Skillit?

Recruiting and retaining skilled craft workers is hard. It makes the recruiters’ jobs tough and it is expensive for builders. We know that the traditional solutions just don’t work. On top of that, hiring expectations have changed and workers expect a fast, smooth, and personalized process.

As the contractor who is hiring, for what am I responsible?

Gone are the days of writing out job descriptions and screening hundreds of candidates only to have just a few who are actually qualified. Skillit does the screening for you, and our taxonomized worker info will tell you exactly who comes with which skills and attributes. A simple filtering process can show just those workers who fit your exact criteria. If you have an ongoing need to fill similar positions in the future you can save that search and come back at any time.

What does Skillit do besides helping me to hire workers?

Skillit helps solve a problem that is much larger than any single job opening. Because workers on Skillit are taxonomized and carefully filtered, there is a better chance that those you hire will be better suited to their jobs and will therefore stick around longer.

How can a contractor search for candidates?

All of the workers visible to you on Skillit are prescreened and their work history, skills and other attributes are all presented in a standard format. Presently, Skillit screens for over 200 discrete attributes. We also administer skill assessments so that employers can further verify represented abilities. How do I know that candidates are a good fit for my needs?
