Responsible for the layout, installation, assembly and steel erection components in accordance with blueprint plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Salary Range Ironworkers/Rodbusters: $32 per hour + $1 night shift differential

Here’s what Skillit needs from you:

• High school diploma or equivalent with previous experience in the field or a related area

• Strong working knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position

• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with management and supervision

• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and measurement tools

• Must be able to constantly move about a construction/industrial site — stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl

• Comfortable working in a construction environment with exposure to changing outdoor weather conditions

• Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required

• Must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds (may exceed 200 feet)

• Ability to move and work in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven surfaces

• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment

• Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs across a construction/industrial site

• Must have required tools

• U.S. Driver's License may be required

• Must observe and comply with all safety and project rules

• Must be able to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

• Read specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of material required

• Fabricate metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders according to blueprints or supervisor instructions

• Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes or by signaling hoisting equipment operators

• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels

• Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment

• Force structural steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools

• Pull, push, or pry structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting into place

• Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding

• Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging such as cables, pulleys, or hooks to move heavy equipment or materials

• Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed for work activities

• Inspect subordinate work for compliance with contract plans and specifications; identify deficiencies and take corrective action
