Civil Journeyman Carpenter

Austin, TX

About This Role

Looking for an experienced journeyman carpenter to join a civil construction crew in Austin, TX. You’ll perform hands-on carpentry on road, drainage, and infrastructure jobs — building and stripping forms, framing, bracing, and helping crews pour concrete. Work is outdoors and fast-paced, with a focus on quality and safety. Ideal candidates read plans, set accurate layouts, and finish work to spec. You’ll work with a small crew, follow site directions, keep tools in good shape, and help maintain a safe jobsite. This is steady, local work in the Austin area with overtime opportunities for those who want extra hours.

What You'll Do

  • Perform journeyman-level carpentry: formwork, shoring, bracing, and general framing for civil projects
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, stakes, and layout points; set accurate lines and levels
  • Measure, cut, assemble, install, and strip concrete forms and timber structures
  • Operate hand and power tools safely; assist with material handling and site setup
  • Inspect finished work for quality, report issues, maintain tools, and follow site safety rules

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years journeyman-level carpentry experience on civil or commercial projects
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and layouts
  • Strong rough carpentry and formwork/framing skills for concrete work
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and civil site practices
  • Able to work outdoors in varied weather, lift heavy materials, and stand for long periods
  • Reliable, able to follow directions, work as part of a crew, and maintain quality and safety standards

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10-hour construction card (required); OSHA 30 preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to Austin-area job sites
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Conversational English required; Spanish-speaking candidates a plus
  • NCCER or other carpentry certification preferred

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay with overtime opportunities
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance options
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Tool/boot allowance and reimbursement for required PPE
  • Paid safety training and certification reimbursement (OSHA, flagger, etc.)
