Carpenter — Millwork & Casework Installer
About This Role
Skilled carpenter needed in Washington, DC to install high-level millwork, casework, plastic laminate, and ornamental metalwork on commercial projects. You'll preplan installations, read blueprints, and execute work with an emphasis on quality, speed, and safety. This role requires hands-on finish carpentry experience, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and a commitment to a jobsite safety program. Must supply personal tools and be able to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
What You'll Do
- • Install AWW, PL and metal casework, fume hoods, DFH units, countertops, door hardware and other specialty items per drawings and specifications.
- • Preplan each installation: determine tools, materials, fasteners and the safest, most efficient sequence of work.
- • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings and layout sheets; verify field dimensions and coordinate with trades.
- • Set, adjust and fasten casework and millwork; trim and finish to specified tolerances and aesthetic standards.
- • Follow site safety plans and use Stop Work Authority when hazards are observed; report incidents and participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- • Work with minimal supervision, maintain clean work areas, protect finished surfaces, and coordinate with project leads and other trades.
What We're Looking For
- • 3–5 years finished carpentry experience with casework, plastic laminate and architectural millwork.
- • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings and installation details.
- • Must supply personal hand and finish carpentry tools; bring a basic set of measuring and layout tools.
- • Physically able to climb ladders/scaffolds, stoop/kneel/crouch and lift/carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- • Strong communication skills for coordination with leads and other trades; able to work with minimal supervision.
- • Willingness to follow and enforce site safety procedures and participate in required safety training.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).
- • 3–5 years' proven experience in finish carpentry, casework and millwork installations.
- • Union membership where applicable (preferred).
- • OSHA 10-hour construction safety card preferred; additional safety or trade certifications a plus.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to Washington, DC jobsites.
- • Able to pass drug screen and background check; English proficiency for safe communication on site.
