Crane Operator

About this role

Join a steel erection crew in Lakeland, FL as a Crane Operator supporting structural steel and rigging projects across the state. You’ll operate mobile and crawler cranes to lift, position, and set beams, columns, joists and specialty steel while working directly with riggers and ironworkers. This role emphasizes safety, precise lift execution, and clear communication. You’ll read load charts and lift plans, coordinate lifts by hand signal and radio, perform daily equipment inspections, and travel to jobsites statewide (overnight stays when required).

What you'll do

• • Operate mobile and crawler cranes to lift, move and set structural steel and materials on site
• • Read and follow load charts, lift plans and rigging configurations for each lift
• • Coordinate lifts with riggers and ironworkers using standard hand signals and radio communication
• • Perform daily crane and rigging inspections; report and tag out defects or unsafe conditions
• • Assist with rigging tasks as needed (slings, shackles, chokers, spreader bars) and maintain clean, safe equipment

What we're looking for

• • Proven experience operating mobile and crawler cranes on steel erection projects and critical lifts
• • Ability to read and interpret load charts, lift plans and rigging diagrams for multi-crane and blind lifts
• • Strong communication skills for directing crews via hand signals and radio and for reporting hazards to supervision
• • Comfort with overnight travel to jobsites across Florida and flexible scheduling on project sites
• • Physically fit for climbing, signaling, rigging, and working at height; follows safety procedures and site rules

Qualifications

• • NCCCO Crane certification (mobile and/or crawler)
• • NCCCO Rigger certification
• • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; clean driving record preferred
• • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
• • Proficient English communication (verbal and written) and able to follow site-specific training and safety procedures
