Tower Crane Operator

Austin, TX $30-$43/hr

About this role

Operate a tower crane on commercial construction sites in Austin, TX, hoisting materials as directed by signal personnel and coordinating lifts with rigging crews. This role requires steady focus at heights, strict adherence to safety procedures, and hands-on supervision of field labor and work crews. You’ll attend site-specific safety and skills training, complete required certifications, and maintain all required PPE and fall protection. Expect physically demanding work: climbing ladders, lifting materials, and working in varying weather and noise conditions. Pre-employment screening, drug testing, and a physical are required before starting.

What you'll do

  • Hoist materials per direction of signal personnel and follow lift plans and hand signals.
  • Supervise field labor and on-site work crews; coordinate with riggers and other trades during lifts.
  • Perform daily pre-start and safety checks on crane equipment; report defects and coordinate repairs.
  • Attend required site and company safety trainings, toolbox talks, and follow all site safety protocols, including use of fall protection and PPE.
  • Maintain clear communication with foremen, riggers, and signalmen to ensure safe, timely lifts and site operations.

What we're looking for

  • Prior tower crane experience with proven competence on commercial jobsites.
  • Ability to maintain concentration, judge depth perception, and follow written and verbal directions in English.
  • Physically able to climb, work at heights, ascend/descend ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills; able to coordinate multi-trade lifts and respond to signals.
  • Able to pass criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and medical/fitness-for-duty exam.

Qualifications

  • NCCCO tower crane certification (required).
  • OSHA 10-hour card or completion within 90 days of hire.
  • Able to pass background check, pre-employment drug screen, and physical (silica exam if applicable).
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Spanish language ability preferred but not required.
