Datacom Helper (Entry-Level)
About this role
Entry-level datacom helpers needed in Indianapolis to support structured cabling work at a data center. This role is hands-on and ideal for candidates new to low-voltage who want on-the-job training installing copper and fiber cabling. You will assist experienced low-voltage installers with pulling and terminating CAT5/CAT6, routing and preparing fiber optic cable, and performing general site support tasks. The position requires a reliable, physically able worker who can follow direction and work in a controlled data center environment.
What you'll do
- • Assist with structured cabling installation in a data center under direction of lead installers
- • Pull, route, dress, and label CAT5/CAT6 copper cabling to termination points and patch panels
- • Help install, route, and prepare fiber optic cable for termination and testing
- • Carry materials and tools, set up ladders/scaffolding, and maintain neat cable pathways and trays
- • Support on-site crews with general low-voltage tasks: cable ties, documentation, equipment positioning
- • Follow site safety and access procedures, including clean-room or raised-floor protocols
What we're looking for
- • Basic low-voltage knowledge or hands-on experience with copper/fiber cabling
- • Ability to work full time and be available for possible overtime or shift changes
- • Comfort working in a data center environment (raised floors, tight spaces, cable racks)
- • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods
- • Reliable transportation or willingness to relocate to Indianapolis and report to site
- • Willingness to follow safety rules, site access procedures, and pass background/drug screening
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED preferred
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- • Able to pass background check and drug screen
- • OSHA 10 or willingness to obtain on hire
- • Basic English reading and verbal communication for following instructions
