About this role

We are hiring a traveling Electrician based in the Chicago area to install, commission, and maintain Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and transfer switches for critical power sites. This is a hands-on, field role that requires working with equipment from multiple manufacturers to ensure uptime and reliability for data centers, hospitals, and commercial facilities. This position requires significant domestic travel (50%–75%). You’ll be on site performing installs, troubleshooting, testing, and preventive maintenance. If you take pride in keeping critical power systems running and can work independently in high-stakes environments, this job is for you.

What you'll do

  • Install, wire, and commission UPS systems and associated DC/AC components per manufacturer specifications.
  • Install, align, test, and maintain automatic and manual transfer switches from multiple manufacturers.
  • Perform troubleshooting, fault isolation, and repairs on distribution equipment, PDUs, transformers, and standby/emergency systems.
  • Conduct acceptance testing, load bank testing, preventative maintenance, and document test results and punchlists.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment manuals on site.
  • Manage jobsite documentation: time and material records, service reports, equipment logs, and client communications.

What we're looking for

  • Proven hands-on experience installing, commissioning, and maintaining UPS systems and transfer switches.
  • Skilled in conduit bending, wireway/raceway installation, and commercial electrical service work.
  • Experience with transformer installation/maintenance, PDUs, standby/emergency systems, and distribution equipment.
  • Comfortable working on low and medium voltage systems; able to use electrical test equipment for diagnostics and commissioning.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically 50%–75%, staying overnight and working at varied client sites.

Qualifications

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to pass background and drug screen
  • Comfort with lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in tight or elevated spaces
  • Proficient in reading electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and manufacturer manuals

What we offer

  • Per diem or travel reimbursement for overnight travel and meals.
  • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement when on the road.
  • Health benefits and retirement plan options.
  • Paid time off and holiday pay for field staff.
  • Tool allowance and reimbursement for required PPE and safety gear.
  • Training and certification support for manufacturer-specific equipment and safety programs.
