Traveling Electrician — UPS & Transfer Switches

Harrisburg, PA $27-$44/hr

About this role

Work as a traveling electrician based out of Harrisburg, PA, installing, maintaining, and commissioning UPS systems and transfer switches from multiple manufacturers. This role requires hands-on electrical work at customer sites across the U.S., ensuring critical power systems remain reliable and online. Expect extensive domestic travel (50%–75%), site commissioning, troubleshooting and system handoffs. You'll work with other techs, site staff, and manufacturers’ reps to complete installs, tests, and preventive maintenance on standby and emergency power equipment.

What you'll do

  • Install, wire, and commission UPS systems, transfer switches, PDUs, and associated distribution equipment on customer sites
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to verify uptime and reliability of critical power systems
  • Work with components and controls from multiple manufacturers; follow OEM procedures and site-specific drawings
  • Bend conduit, pull and terminate feeders/branch circuits, mount racks and equipment, and perform medium/high- and low-voltage connections as required
  • Document work: complete service reports, commissioning checklists, and time-and-material job records; communicate schedule updates to project leads
  • Travel to client sites domestically 50%–75% and coordinate site access, lift/rigging needs, and on-site safety procedures

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience installing, commissioning, and repairing UPS systems and transfer switches
  • Strong conduit bending, wireway/raceway installation, and distribution equipment experience
  • Hands-on knowledge of standby/emergency power systems, PDUs, transformers, and overcurrent device selection/installation
  • Ability to read and follow electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and commissioning/test procedures
  • Comfort with travel: able to be on the road 50%–75% and work at customer sites for multi-day assignments

Qualifications

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
  • OSHA 10 (construction) certification
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to travel domestically 50%–75%
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
  • Comfort working at heights, lifting up to 50 lbs, and operating hand/power tools
