Traveling Electrician — UPS & Transfer Switch Specialist
About This Role
Traveling Electrician position based in Harrisburg, PA focused on installing, commissioning and maintaining UPS systems and automatic/manual transfer switches from multiple manufacturers. This is a hands-on field role that requires solid electrical skills, troubleshooting under pressure, and frequent domestic travel (50%–75%) to customer sites across the U.S. You will be the on-site lead for UPS installs, retrofit work, preventive maintenance and emergency response to keep critical power systems running. Expect a mix of long and short assignments, work with other trades and site staff, and document testing and commissioning results after each job.
What You'll Do
- • Install, wire and mount UPS systems, PDUs and associated distribution equipment per manufacturer specs and site drawings
- • Install, wire, test and commission automatic and manual transfer switches from multiple manufacturers
- • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostic testing and on-site troubleshooting to restore uptime
- • Run conduit, raceways and wireways; bend conduit and terminate feeders, branch circuits and control wiring
- • Complete commissioning paperwork, test reports and site documentation; coordinate with site contacts and vendors
- • Travel to client sites (50%–75%), manage job logistics, and perform safe work practices on each assignment
What We're Looking For
- • Proven field experience installing and commissioning UPS systems and transfer switches
- • Skilled with conduit bending, wireway/raceway installation, and power distribution wiring
- • Experience with standby/emergency power systems and medium/low voltage distribution work
- • Comfortable troubleshooting electrical faults, performing relay/controls checks and motor controller tasks
- • Able to travel domestically 50%–75% and work varying shift lengths on-site
- • Valid driver's license, able to pass drug screen and background check; can lift and handle heavy equipment
Qualifications
- • CPR, AED and First Aid
- • OSHA 10
- • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent field experience)
- • Willingness to travel 50%–75% and work flexible schedules
