Traveling Electrician — UPS & Transfer Switches

About this role
Hands-on traveling electrician role based out of Arlington, VA. You'll install, maintain and commission Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and manual/automatic transfer switches from multiple manufacturers to keep critical power systems online. Expect heavy domestic travel (50%–75%). Work includes on-site commissioning, system testing, troubleshooting, and coordinating with facility staff and manufacturers to ensure reliable power and uptime.
What you'll do
- • Install, wire and commission UPS systems and battery cabinets per manufacturer instructions and site drawings
- • Install, test and troubleshoot manual and automatic transfer switches and associated distribution equipment
- • Perform on-site testing, startup checks, and load-transfer verification; complete commissioning documentation
- • Run conduit, install wireways/raceways, mount racks and PDUs, and make terminations to industry standards
- • Coordinate with facility personnel and manufacturer service reps during commissioning and maintenance
- • Manage travel schedule, jobsite time tracking, material use, and basic client reporting
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience installing and commissioning UPS systems and transfer switches from multiple manufacturers
- • Ability to travel domestically 50%–75% and work overnight stays as needed
- • Strong hands-on electrical skills: conduit bending, wireway/raceway installation, distribution equipment wiring
- • Experience with standby/emergency systems, PDUs, and medium/low-voltage distribution
- • Able to read electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and manufacturer installation manuals
- • Good troubleshooting skills with test equipment (multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester) and commissioning procedures
Qualifications
- • CPR, AED and First Aid certification
- • OSHA 10-hour construction safety certification
- • Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record
- • Comfortable with domestic travel and overnight stays (50%–75%)
- • Strong English communication skills for client and team coordination
