Traveling Electrician — UPS & Transfer Switch Specialist
About This Role
Hands-on traveling electrician role based out of Arlington, VA installing, commissioning, and maintaining UPS systems and transfer switches from multiple manufacturers. You’ll be on the road to customer sites across the U.S. (domestic travel 50–75%) to keep critical power systems running. This is field work: install wiring and raceways, set and commission UPS and transfer switch systems, troubleshoot faults, perform load testing and preventative maintenance, and complete site reports. Expect to work independently on job sites and coordinate with facility contacts to ensure uptime and reliability.
What You'll Do
- • Install, wire, and commission UPS systems and automatic/manual transfer switches from various manufacturers
- • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on PDUs, transformers, switchgear and standby/emergency power systems
- • Bend conduit, install raceways, run power feeders and branch circuits, and mount racks/equipment to code
- • Conduct load testing, commissioning checks, insulation/resistance tests, and complete as-built documentation and test reports
- • Coordinate on-site work with facility contacts, manage time and materials, and keep clear service logs
- • Travel domestically 50%–75%; work independently at customer sites and support occasional overnight assignments
What We're Looking For
- • 3+ years commercial/industrial electrician or electronics technician experience working on UPS, transfer switches, or standby power
- • Proven conduit bending, raceway installation, and power distribution wiring skills
- • Experience with transformers, PDUs, switchgear, and standby/emergency system installation and maintenance
- • Strong commissioning and troubleshooting skills using multimeters, meggers, clamp meters and test loads
- • Ability to read electrical prints, perform branch circuit and feeder load calculations, and follow wiring diagrams
- • Willingness and ability to travel 50%–75% domestically; valid driver’s license required
Qualifications
- • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
- • OSHA 10 hour certification (required)
- • High school diploma or GED; journeyman ticket or equivalent preferred
- • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record
- • Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screen
- • Proficient English for site communication and documentation
