Junior Estimator
About This Role
Join a heavy civil estimating team in Raleigh as a Junior Estimator supporting sitework and grading projects. You’ll assist with quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, bid leveling and subcontractor pricing for infrastructure work — a hands-on role that builds your estimating skills. This position is ideal for someone with 2–3 years of estimating or sitework experience who wants to grow into a full estimator role. Expect to work daily with plans and estimating software, coordinate with subs and suppliers, and occasionally visit current and prospective jobsites.
What You'll Do
- • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid leveling sheets for heavy civil and sitework grading projects
- • Perform quantity takeoffs from civil drawings and verify measurements
- • Coordinate pricing with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives
- • Build and maintain bid documentation, takeoff files, and estimate backup
- • Use estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Excel) to assemble bids
- • Occasionally travel to jobsites for takeoffs, site reviews, and pre-bid meetings
What We're Looking For
- • 2–3 years estimating experience in construction, preferably civil/sitework grading
- • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans, and specifications
- • Proven skill doing quantity takeoffs and basic cost math
- • Hands-on experience with Excel and familiarity with HCSS HeavyBid, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or BuildingConnected
- • Strong communication to coordinate pricing with subs and suppliers
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for occasional site visits
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- • OSHA 10 (or willingness to obtain) preferred
- • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, BuildingConnected and Excel
- • Valid state driver’s license
- • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
