Junior Estimator

About this role

We’re hiring a Junior Estimator in Raleigh to support heavy civil and sitework grading projects. This hands-on role helps prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates and bid packages while learning the details of civil infrastructure estimating. You’ll work closely with the estimating team to perform quantity takeoffs, build bid leveling sheets, coordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing, and support bid submittals. Ideal candidates have 2–3 years of estimating experience, strong drawing interpretation skills, and a desire to grow into a civil estimator role.

What you'll do

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid leveling sheets for sitework and heavy civil projects
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from civil drawings and verify takeoff accuracy
  • Coordinate pricing with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives
  • Enter and maintain estimate data in estimating software and Excel; produce clear bid packages
  • Assist with site visits for pricing, measurements, and scope verification as needed
  • Support the estimating team with document control, bid clarifications, and proposal assembly

What we're looking for

  • 2–3 years estimating experience in construction, preferably civil sitework/grading
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and perform accurate takeoffs
  • Working knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and Excel
  • Strong math, organization, and attention to detail; able to track multiple bid items
  • Good communication skills for coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally to job sites

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 2–3 years of civil/sitework estimating experience
  • Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, BuildingConnected, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license (required); reliable transportation for site travel
  • OSHA 10 (preferred) and comfortable following site safety protocols
