Field Engineer — Site Survey & Layout

About This Role

Join active commercial construction jobsites in Austin as a Field Engineer responsible for precise layout, surveying, and dimensional quality control. You’ll work directly with the superintendent to establish building control, set benchmarks and corners, and verify that in-place work matches plans. This is a hands-on role using total stations, data collectors and AutoCAD point layout. You’ll keep daily field logs, communicate directly with foremen and the superintendent, and help keep the project on-grade, plumb and accurate while following OSHA and site safety rules. What You'll Do

• • Perform construction layout, topographic, camber, and as-built surveys using total stations, robotic stations and related equipment
• • Establish and maintain building control: benchmarks, corners, hubs, stringlines, and grade for all trades
• • Install embeds, set stakes/hubs, transfer project benchmarks and control lines, and stake points with precision
• • Verify plumbness, camber, and dimensional accuracy of structural steel and concrete; conduct floor flatness/levelness checks
• • Use AutoCAD point files and data collectors for point layout and transfer points to the field
• • Maintain detailed daily field logs, review drawings/specs/shop drawings for discrepancies, and coordinate with the superintendent and field crews

What We're Looking For

• • Prior field engineer or construction survey experience on commercial projects
• • Proven ability to operate total station, robotic total station, auto level and data collectors safely and accurately
• • Working knowledge of AutoCAD point layout or similar point-transfer software
• • Strong blueprint reading and ability to interpret drawings, specs, and shop drawings
• • Excellent attention to dimensional detail, math skills, and ability to solve layout/site discrepancies
• • Reliable transportation to jobsite and ability to work outdoors, on uneven terrain, and at heights

Qualifications

• • OSHA 10 (required within 90 days if not already certified)
• • Experience with total station / robotic total station, data collector and AutoCAD
• • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical
• • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding, and work in varied weather conditions
• • Spanish language ability preferred (not required)
