About this role

Hands-on field/project engineer needed for commercial construction jobsites in Austin. You’ll be responsible for precise layout, surveying, and dimensional quality control, working closely with the superintendent to establish and maintain building control and verify in-place work. This on-site role requires regular use of total stations, data collectors, and AutoCAD point layout. You’ll keep detailed field logs, attend coordination and safety meetings, care for survey equipment, and flag any drawing or site discrepancies so work stays accurate and on schedule.

What you'll do

  • Perform construction layout, topographic, camber, and as-built surveys using total stations, robotic instruments, and data collectors.
  • Establish and maintain building control, benchmarks, corners, hubs, and grade for all trades; transfer project baseline and horizontal control as needed.
  • Install embeds, set stakes/hubs/string lines, shoot and transfer grade for excavations, site work, and slabs.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy of in-place work; conduct camber and plumbness checks for structural steel and identify discrepancies.
  • Create and maintain point files with AutoCAD and data collectors; maintain detailed daily field logs and survey records.
  • Coordinate with the superintendent and field crews, attend field coordination and safety meetings, and maintain survey equipment.

What we're looking for

  • Prior experience as a field or project engineer on commercial construction jobsites.
  • Proficient operating total stations (including robotic), auto levels, data collectors, and AutoCAD/point layout software.
  • Strong blueprint reading and the ability to review drawings, specs, and shop drawings to spot discrepancies.
  • Comfort working in varied field conditions, performing precise measurements, and completing physical tasks (able to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights).
  • Reliable, on-site availability for full-time work in the Austin area and strong verbal/written communication with field teams.
  • OSHA 10 (current or must obtain within 90 days of hire).

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 (must be obtained within 90 days if not current)
  • Experience with total stations, robotic instruments, data collectors, and AutoCAD point layout
  • Blueprint reading and familiarity with contract documents and shop drawings
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Austin jobsites
  • Ability to pass criminal background check, drug screen, pre-employment physical, and silica exam if applicable
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; bilingual Spanish/English preferred

What we offer

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage (where offered)
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Retirement plan/401(k) or retirement savings option
  • Company-provided PPE, survey tools, and equipment maintenance
  • Paid site-specific safety training and opportunity for technical training and advancement
