Full Time
Field / Project Engineer — Construction Surveyor
About This Role
We need a hands-on Field / Project Engineer to run construction surveying and layout across projects in Texas. You’ll work outside daily, set up and operate total stations/GPS, read plans, and make field decisions to keep crews moving. Pay range: $28–$40/hr DOE; overtime and per diem available for travel jobs. This is a practical, get-it-done role: be reliable, physically fit, and able to communicate with superintendents and crews. Expect long days on-site (10–12 hr typical), travel between job sites, and direct responsibility for accurate layout, as-builts, and quality control.
What You'll Do
- • Set up and operate total station, GNSS/GPS, automatic level and field data collectors for staking and layout
- • Perform control, topographic, grade checks, and as-built surveys; produce clear field notes and digital files
- • Transfer plan and CAD/Civil3D data to the field; stake points and verify elevations for crews
- • Mark and verify locations for concrete, utilities, trenches, forms, and structures
- • Coordinate with site superintendents and subcontractors to sequence layout work and resolve on-site issues
- • Maintain equipment, upload/download data, and prepare daily reports and RFIs as needed
What We're Looking For
- • 2+ years field engineering or construction surveying experience on heavy civil or commercial jobs
- • Proven ability to operate total station, GNSS/GPS, level and field data software
- • Able to read and interpret construction plans, stakes, and grade sheets
- • Hands-on troubleshooting skills and strong attention to measurement accuracy
- • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; able to work long site days and travel between sites
- • Physically fit for walking, climbing, and lifting equipment outdoors in all weather
Qualifications
- • OSHA-10 (required) — OSHA-30 preferred
- • Surveyor-in-Training (SIT), Crew Chief, or related certification a plus
- • First Aid/CPR preferred
- • Proficiency with field software (Trimble, Topcon, Leica) and basic Civil3D or AutoCAD export/import
- • Spanish language skills a plus
- • Reliable transportation and ability to pass a drug screen
What We Offer
- • Competitive pay: $28–$40/hr DOE plus overtime
- • Per diem and travel pay for out-of-town assignments
- • Medical insurance and retirement plan options
- • Paid time off and holiday pay
- • Tool/equipment allowance and boot reimbursement
- • Opportunities for steady work and overtime on multiple projects
