Paving Foreman
About This Role
Paving Foreman needed in Richmond, VA to lead asphalt and concrete paving crews on commercial and municipal jobs. You’ll be on-site every day directing crews, inspecting work, coordinating materials, and keeping projects on time and safe. This is a hands-on foreman role for someone who knows paving equipment, reads basic plans, and enforces quality and safety standards. Expect local travel, early starts, and overtime when projects demand it. Pay is competitive and based on experience.
What You'll Do
- • Supervise paving crews (asphalt and concrete) on site: assign tasks, set daily goals, and ensure crews work safely and efficiently.
- • Coordinate materials, trucks, and subtrades to keep the job flowing and avoid downtime.
- • Set up and operate or oversee pavers, rollers, screeds, and hand tools; check grade and mat smoothness for quality control.
- • Read plans and grade stakes; measure and test surfaces for proper compaction and tolerances.
- • Maintain jobsite safety: enforce PPE, traffic control, and site housekeeping; complete daily reports and time sheets.
What We're Looking For
- • 3+ years of paving experience with at least 1 year in a lead or foreman role.
- • Hands-on knowledge of asphalt and concrete placement, compaction, and finishing techniques.
- • Ability to read plans, use basic measuring tools (level, grade rod), and perform quality checks.
- • Strong communication skills to direct crews and coordinate with supervisors and suppliers.
- • Valid driver’s license; able to pass drug screen and background check.
Qualifications
- • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- • Flagger certification (MUTCD) or ability to get certified.
- • CDL Class B preferred but not required; experience operating paving equipment a plus.
- • Current First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- • Able to read site plans and basic math for stakes, slopes, and volumes.
