Per Diem
Quality Control Technician
About This Role
Join our crew in Baton Rouge as a Quality Control Technician (per diem). You’ll inspect products and welds in the field, run tests, verify tolerances, and make sure work meets project specs and safety rules. This is hands-on work around welding crews and ironwork — bring a solid eye for detail and welding knowledge. This per diem role requires travel within the area, clear documentation of findings, and close coordination with foremen and welders. You’ll play a key role keeping projects safe and compliant while getting paid travel per diem and practical, steady assignments.
What You'll Do
- • Perform daily visual and dimensional inspections of products, welds and structural components (on-site and shop).
- • Conduct tests as required (weld checks, tack inspections, fit-up verification) and use inspection tools to verify tolerances.
- • Document inspection results, complete reports and non-conformance records, and communicate findings to foremen and QC leads.
- • Verify adherence to project quality standards and safety regulations; stop work or tag items that fail inspection.
- • Coordinate with welding crews and pipefitters to resolve defects and confirm corrective actions are completed.
What We're Looking For
- • Hands-on welding and inspection experience across multiple processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW) and materials (stainless, hot-rolled steel, aluminum, cast iron).
- • Skilled with weld-related processes and equipment: oxyfuel cutting, plasma/air carbon arc cutting, stud welding, soldering/brazing, and general ironwork.
- • Ability to inspect and evaluate tank and structural steel welding, pipefit assemblies, and stud welds; familiarity with pipefitting shop and field conditions.
- • Comfortable working around underwater welding and specialty processes when present; able to review welds for common defects and quality issues.
- • Strong documentation habits: clear written reports, accurate measurements, and timely communication with site leadership.
Qualifications
- • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) — required
- • Minimum 2 years’ experience in welding inspection or hands-on welding work
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites
- • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
- • Working knowledge of blueprint/read-and-interpret welding symbols and inspection reports
What We Offer
- • Per diem paid for travel/assignments (daily travel allowance).
- • Competitive hourly pay with overtime available.
- • Paid weekly, prompt invoicing/payment for per diem roles.
- • PPE and basic safety equipment provided on assignment.
- • Hands-on field work with steady per-diem assignments and direct site contact with welding crews.
