Heavy Equipment Mechanic
About This Role
Join our crew as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Indianapolis. You’ll diagnose, repair and maintain excavators, dozers, cranes, haul trucks and skid steers in both shop and field settings. Work includes diesel engine repair, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and on-site repairs at construction or mining sites. This is hands-on work—expect to use diagnostic software, hydraulic test tools, welders and common shop equipment. You must follow safety protocols, document work accurately, and be ready for some travel to job sites and occasional overtime.
What You'll Do
- • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, fuel systems and drivetrains on heavy machinery
- • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems: pumps, valves, cylinders and hoses
- • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and accessories, including starters, alternators and wiring
- • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and complete service reports
- • Use diagnostic software and test equipment to isolate faults and verify repairs
- • Perform field repairs on construction/mining sites and maintain clean, safe work areas
What We're Looking For
- • Proven experience repairing diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems on heavy equipment
- • Skilled with diagnostic software, multimeters, hydraulic test gauges and common shop tools
- • Ability to read schematics, service manuals and parts diagrams
- • Comfort working in both shop and field environments; able to lift and carry heavy parts
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites; travel to sites as needed
- • Commitment to following safety procedures and regulatory compliance
Qualifications
- • 3+ years experience on heavy equipment (excavator, dozer, haul truck, skid steer preferred)
- • ASE Heavy Duty/Diesel Technician or equivalent training preferred
- • Hydraulics certification and/or EPA refrigerant (A/C) certification a plus
- • OSHA 10 or 30 hour safety training preferred
- • Class A CDL preferred but not required
- • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check; English required, Spanish a plus
