Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About This Role

Experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic needed for hands-on field work in the Williamsburg, VA area. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain construction machinery — gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrains, electrical systems — often working alone on job sites and making quick, practical repair decisions. This role requires at least 3 years of field experience, basic OXY/acetylene and MIG welding skills, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work flexible hours including early mornings and evenings. Pay range is $20–$50/hr DOE. If you take pride in solid, reliable repairs and can manage parts, schedules, and confidential paperwork, this is a straightforward, steady field role.

What You'll Do

• • Troubleshoot and repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, powertrains, hydraulics, fuel and emissions systems
• • Perform routine maintenance and diagnostics on electrical systems, controls, AC accessories, and heavy equipment components
• • Make on-site repair decisions, fabricate or weld parts (OXY/Acetylene and MIG), and complete quality checks
• • Order parts, arrange repair schedules, and recommend downtime for equipment as needed
• • Travel to job sites across the Williamsburg area and complete written work orders and service reports while keeping sensitive information confidential
• • Work flexible hours — early mornings, evenings, and occasional overtime to meet project needs

What We're Looking For

• • Minimum 3 years field experience repairing construction equipment
• • Strong working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines and related systems
• • Basic OXY/Acetylene torch and MIG welding skills
• • Ability to quickly diagnose issues and make rational repair decisions in the field
• • Valid driver’s license and proven ability to work independently and safely on job sites
• • Able to read, follow, and complete written or oral instructions; willingness to learn and adapt

Qualifications

• • High school diploma, GED, or trade school preferred
• • Minimum 3 years of field experience repairing construction equipment
• • Valid driver’s license (required)
• • Practical experience with OXY/Acetylene and MIG welding
• • Able to communicate in English to give and receive written or oral instructions
