Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About This Role

Heavy Equipment Mechanic needed in Indianapolis to service and repair commercial construction and industrial equipment. You’ll work on diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical accessories and perform preventive and corrective maintenance — CAT experience is a plus. This is hands-on field work. Expect shop and jobsite calls, travel to customer locations, and straightforward, practical diagnostics and repairs. Competitive pay based on experience and steady work for the right techs.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions and drivetrains on commercial heavy equipment (CAT experience preferred)
  • Inspect, test and maintain hydraulic systems, cylinders, pumps and valves; perform hydraulic repairs and component replacements
  • Perform preventive maintenance, scheduled service inspections and corrective maintenance; document work and parts used
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, AC and accessory components; wire harness and sensor diagnostics
  • Travel to job sites with service truck, perform on-site repairs, and support shutdowns or breakdown responses as needed

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3+ years experience with commercial heavy equipment or industrial construction equipment
  • Strong diesel engine diagnostic and repair skills; experience with fuel systems, injectors and emissions controls
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems and hydraulic components
  • Hands-on electrical and heavy equipment AC/accessory maintenance experience
  • Willingness to travel to job sites and work overtime when required; able to work in varying weather and jobsite conditions
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; able to pass drug screen and background check

Qualifications

  • ASE diesel or equivalent heavy-diesel technician certification preferred
  • CAT dealer training or CET certification a plus
  • Refrigerant/recovery certification or experience with heavy equipment AC systems preferred
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required
  • Able to read technical manuals, use diagnostic software and communicate in English
