Heavy Equipment Mechanic
About This Role
Experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic needed in Greensboro, NC to maintain and repair a varied fleet of heavy equipment. This is hands-on work: diagnose engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems; rebuild components; perform preventive maintenance; and work on-site at job locations in all weather conditions. You’ll use electronic diagnostic systems, hand and power tools, and welding/flame-cutting equipment. Expect a mix of shop work and travel to job sites, completing repair orders and maintaining e-logs while practicing safe driving and equipment operation. What You'll Do
- • Perform routine maintenance and repair on company vehicles and heavy equipment (oil changes, filters, brakes, hydraulics).
- • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, diesel/gas engines, transmissions and electrical issues using electronic diagnostics.
- • Travel to job sites for on-site troubleshooting and repairs in varying weather and terrain conditions.
- • Rebuild or replace engines and hydraulic pumps; repair or replace hoses, seals, and fittings.
- • Use welding and flame-cutting equipment for fabrications and repairs; maintain hand and power tools.
- • Complete repair orders, update e-logs/log books and follow safe driving and equipment operation practices.
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and fleet vehicles.
- • Strong diagnostic skills with diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrical systems.
- • Proficient with electronic computerized diagnostic systems, hand/power tools, welding and flame cutting.
- • Ability to perform field service work — travel to job sites and work in hot/cold or inclement weather.
- • Mechanical aptitude with ability to read service manuals, schematics and repair orders.
- • Valid driver's license and safe driving record; able to operate company vehicles and service trucks.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED.
- • ASE Heavy-Duty/Medium-Heavy Vehicle certification preferred.
- • Welding certification (oxygen/acetylene; MIG/TIG preferred).
- • Hydraulic system certification or documented hydraulic repair experience.
- • CDL Class A preferred; valid driver's license required. DOT medical card if required by assignment.
- • English proficiency for reading manuals, completing reports and communicating on job sites.
