Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Atlanta, GA Up to $31/hr

About This Role

Join a busy rental shop in Atlanta, GA as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. You’ll keep a growing fleet of construction equipment running—diagnosing failures from schematics, repairing diesel and gas systems, and turning equipment over quickly so it’s ready for the next job. This is hands-on work: maintain service trucks, organize parts and shop inventory, respond to onsite service calls, and follow OSHA and shop safety rules. You’ll work independently on assignments and also collaborate with the service team to meet daily priorities in a fast-paced environment. Pay is up to $31/hr with overtime available.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures using schematics and service manuals (engines, powertrains, hydraulics).
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on rental fleet and fleet vehicles; ensure timely turnover of returned equipment.
  • Maintain and stock service trucks; organize shop inventory, order commonly used parts and supplies.
  • Coordinate and complete onsite service calls; communicate status and needs to dispatch and customers.
  • Keep shop and work areas clean and organized; follow OSHA and company safety guidelines at all times.
  • Prioritize service and repair tasks to meet rental readiness goals and customer expectations.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years hands-on experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic (rental or construction equipment preferred).
  • Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
  • Experience with diesel and gasoline engine maintenance, powertrain and transmission repair.
  • Basic computer skills for work orders and parts systems; experience with rental or P2P software a plus.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; able to coordinate onsite repairs and explain work to customers.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in varied weather, and travel to job sites as needed; must provide own basic mechanic tools.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years on-the-job technician experience working on construction or rental equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license; clean driving record required for service calls.
  • ASE or manufacturer certifications preferred; heavy equipment/diesel certifications a plus.
  • English required (able to read schematics and communicate clearly).
  • Must own basic mechanic tools; able to lift 50 lbs and complete physical job duties.

What We Offer

  • Pay up to $31/hr depending on experience; overtime available.
  • Health insurance options (medical, dental, vision) and 401(k) eligibility.
  • Paid time off and paid safety/training sessions.
  • Weekly or biweekly pay options and stable, steady workload.
  • Tools and PPE guidance; paid certifications or training reimbursement where applicable.
