Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
Local heavy equipment operator needed based in or near Asheville or Fletcher, NC. This role is for a hands-on operator who runs dozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers and other construction equipment on civil construction and site-prep jobs. Work will be on local projects — no long-haul assignments — and requires safe, efficient operation of machinery to keep projects on schedule. You’ll work with site leads and crews to move material, excavate and grade, support concrete and trenching work, and perform routine equipment maintenance. Reliable attendance, a focus on safety, and the ability to follow site instructions are essential.
What you'll do
- • Operate dozer, excavator, loader, backhoe, skid steer, grader and dump truck safely and efficiently on construction sites
- • Load and unload material; move earth, place and compact fill; assist with concrete placement and finishing as needed
- • Perform excavation and trenching tasks, follow grade stakes and site plans, and support general site layout
- • Conduct pre-shift equipment inspections, perform routine maintenance, and report defects or needed repairs
- • Follow and enforce site safety procedures, use proper PPE, and participate in toolbox talks and daily briefings
- • Keep accurate equipment logs, complete site paperwork, and follow directions from foremen and superintendents
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment on civil or site work projects (dozer, excavator, loader, grader, skid steer)
- • Experience with loading/unloading materials, trenching/excavation, and general concrete work
- • Ability to operate forklifts and handle basic material handling duties safely
- • Strong knowledge of site safety procedures and ability to enforce them on site
- • Physically able to perform heavy manual work, climb on/off equipment, and work in varied weather conditions
- • Reliable transportation and willingness to commute to job sites in the Asheville/Fletcher area
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- • Forklift certification (preferred) and experience operating powered industrial trucks
- • CDL Class B or ability to obtain one preferred for dump truck operation
- • OSHA 10-hour (or OSHA 30 preferred) safety training or equivalent site safety experience
- • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- • Proficient English for safety communication; additional language skills a plus
What we offer
- • Local projects with primarily day shifts and minimal overnight travel
- • Regular schedule with overtime opportunities when available
- • On-the-job training and opportunities to expand equipment qualifications
- • Paid time off and holiday scheduling where applicable
- • Company-provided PPE and safety gear
- • Support for skill development and trade certifications
