Heavy Equipment Operator

About This Role

Seeking a reliable heavy equipment operator based in or near Asheville or Fletcher, NC to run construction machinery on local civil and site projects. You'll be part of a hands-on crew doing grading, excavation, concrete support, materials handling and general site work. This role is practical and steady — operate production equipment safely and efficiently, perform basic maintenance, and support the crew where needed. Competitive pay based on experience, regular hours with overtime available, and projects in the Asheville/Fletcher area.

What You'll Do

  • Operate heavy equipment on-site: dozer, excavator, loader, backhoe, grader, skid steer and dump trucks as needed
  • Load and unload materials, place and spread aggregate, assist with concrete work and material handling
  • Perform pre- and post-shift inspections and routine maintenance (lubrication, minor repairs, fluid checks)
  • Follow site plans, grade stakes and supervisor instructions to complete grading, excavation and finishing tasks
  • Enforce and follow safety procedures, maintain tidy work areas and support traffic/spotting when required
  • Assist crew with general site operations: truck spotting, forming/finishing concrete, and moving tools/equipment

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2+ years experience operating heavy construction equipment in civil/site work
  • Proven ability to run dozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, graders and dump trucks
  • Experience with loading/unloading materials, forklift operation and basic heavy-equipment maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of jobsite safety practices and ability to enforce procedures on site
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation to Asheville/Fletcher job sites, and ability to pass drug screen
  • Physically able to lift, climb, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 (preferred) or equivalent site safety training
  • Forklift certification and equipment operator certifications (NCCER or similar) a plus
  • CDL Class B preferred but not required (endorsement a plus)
  • Able to read grade stakes, basic site plans and communicate clearly in English (Spanish a plus)
  • Up-to-date driver's license and ability to pass background/drug checks
