About This Role

Seeking a skilled Motor Grader Operator in Williamsburg, VA to run motor graders on civil and commercial construction sites. This role focuses on grading, earthmoving, and finishing work — you’ll follow plans, set grades, and keep equipment in safe working order. Pay is $25–$40/hr depending on experience. You’ll work with small crews on road, site-prep, and utility projects. Candidates should be dependable, safety-minded, and able to operate both traditional motor grader controls and basic GPS/slope-control systems. Heavy lifting and routine equipment maintenance are part of the day-to-day work.

What You'll Do

  • Safely operate motor graders (motor grader, motorgrader) for grading, ditching, and fine grading tasks to meet project specifications
  • Read plans, stakes, and grade sheets; establish and maintain correct slope and elevation
  • Perform pre-shift inspections and routine maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, minor adjustments) to keep equipment running
  • Coordinate with foremen, operators, and laborers to sequence work and meet schedule targets
  • Follow all site safety rules, flagging, and traffic control procedures; report defects or hazards immediately
  • Keep accurate logs of hours, maintenance, and equipment issues; communicate needs for parts or repairs

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years operating motor graders or similar heavy equipment on civil/commercial construction projects
  • Hands-on experience with grader controls, blade work, finish grading, and basic GPS/slope-control setups
  • Familiarity with civil construction tasks: site prep, road base, drainage, and erosion control
  • Able to perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on motor graders
  • Reliable transportation to job site and ability to work full shifts, including overtime when required

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license required; CDL A preferred
  • NCCER or other heavy equipment operator certificate preferred
  • OSHA 10-hour card or equivalent safety training preferred
  • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience
  • English required; Spanish a plus
