Per Diem

Commercial Concrete Equipment Operator

Cedar Rapids, IA

About This Role

Join a hands-on crew as a Commercial Concrete Equipment Operator in Cedar Rapids, IA. You’ll run laser screeds, telehandlers, forklifts, skid steers, loaders and power buggies on high-production commercial pours—distribution centers, data centers, tilt-up and industrial slabs. This is a per diem position that moves between large commercial sites. We need operators who run equipment safely, set up and calibrate machines, and keep pours moving on tight schedules. Open to candidates willing to relocate for projects.

What You'll Do

  • Operate laser screeds (boom, drive-in, or walk-behind), telehandlers, forklifts, skid steers, loaders and ride-on power buggies to support large commercial pours.
  • Set up and calibrate equipment: laser alignment, screed head alignment, grade checks and machine positioning to meet pour maps and elevation tolerances.
  • Perform daily safety checks, document inspections, complete basic preventative maintenance (fluids, grease points, batteries, tire/track wear) and report issues to Foreman or Maintenance.
  • Coordinate directly with pour crews, finishing teams and spotters to maintain concrete flow and production pace; communicate via radio or hand signals.
  • Support safe logistics on site: move materials, assist with mobilization/demobilization, and maintain awareness of site grades, obstacles and congested pour areas.
  • Follow all site safety rules, lockout/tagout and operator protocols; keep equipment clean and serviceable at shift end.

What We're Looking For

  • 1–3 years operating heavy equipment on construction sites, preferably commercial concrete projects.
  • Proven ability to operate at least one of: laser screed, telehandler, forklift, skid steer, loader, or power buggy; multi-equipment operators preferred.
  • Solid understanding of commercial concrete operations, pour maps, grade stakes and elevation controls.
  • Strong focus on safety: perform inspections, follow site protocols, and communicate clearly with crew and spotters.
  • Clean driving/operator record and ability to work per diem on out-of-town projects; willing to relocate for assignments.

Qualifications

  • Forklift Operator certification (required)
  • Scissor Lift Operator certification (required)
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving/operator record
  • Ability to pass drug test and background check
  • Basic English for crew communication (reading pour maps, radio/hand signals)

What We Offer

  • Per diem pay for travel assignments (daily subsistence when offsite).
  • Relocation/travel assistance for candidates willing to move between projects.
  • Consistent commercial work on distribution centers, data centers and industrial slabs—steady runs when projects are active.
  • Weekly pay and paid overtime when applicable.
  • PPE and basic equipment/support provided on site; on-the-job training for specialized equipment.
  • Opportunity to expand skills on laser screeds and other specialty concrete equipment.
