Heavy Equipment Operator

College Station, TX $18-$39/hr

About This Role

Join our commercial construction team in College Station, TX as a Heavy Equipment Operator. You’ll run excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, forklifts and other machines to handle earthwork, grading, trenching, material movement and site prep. Pay range is $18–$39/hr depending on experience and skill level. This is a hands-on, on-site role that expects safe, efficient equipment operation and teamwork. You’ll perform daily equipment checks, keep work areas clean, support other trades, and may train junior operators or lead small work crews as projects require.

What You'll Do

  • Operate excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, forklifts and other heavy equipment for earthwork, grading, trenching and material movement
  • Perform site preparation tasks: grading, cut/fill, trenching, backfill and compaction to project specs
  • Conduct daily pre-shift and post-shift equipment safety checks and routine maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, basic repairs)
  • Follow site plans, grade stakes and operator signals to meet elevations and layout requirements
  • Coordinate with project teams and trades to maintain a safe, efficient work flow; keep job sites tidy and hazards controlled

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience operating construction equipment on commercial projects (excavator, loader, dozer, backhoe, skid steer, forklift)
  • Ability to read basic site plans, understand cut/fill requirements, and follow operator signals
  • Strong safety awareness, ability to work around utilities, other trades and moving equipment
  • Physically able to climb in/out of equipment, perform routine equipment checks, and work outdoors in varied weather
  • Reliable attendance, good communication skills, and willingness to train/mentor junior operators

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to site
  • Forklift certification preferred; formal equipment certifications (NCCER or similar) a plus
  • OSHA 10 (or OSHA 30 preferred) or willingness to obtain on hire
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Proficient English for safe communication on site
