Heavy Equipment Operator
About This Role
Heavy Equipment Operator needed for commercial/civil/marine earthwork in La Porte, TX. You’ll run excavators, dozers (GPS), loaders, skid steers, off-road and water trucks to complete excavation, trenching, grading and material handling tasks while following strict safety procedures. This role requires hands-on operators with 3+ years of experience who can read plans, complete hazard analyses, perform basic equipment inspections/maintenance, and mentor less experienced operators. Night shifts may be required; reliable transportation and a safety-first mindset are a must.
What You'll Do
- • Safely operate excavators, dozers (including GPS), loaders, skid steers, motor graders, off-road and water trucks for excavation, trenching and material handling
- • Perform trenching and excavation safety systems (sloping, shoring, boxes) and complete shallow/deep trench work
- • Rough and fine grade with dozer (GPS) and operate compactors and walk-behind rollers as needed
- • Read and interpret blueprints, complete daily Task Hazard Analyses (THAs), and follow job sequencing and traffic control plans
- • Conduct basic equipment inspections, routine maintenance, complete machine load charts and report defects
- • Train and mentor less-experienced operators and coordinate daily work with other trades on site
What We're Looking For
- • 3+ years operating heavy equipment on commercial, civil, or marine projects (excavator, dozer, loader, skid steer, grader, water/off-road truck)
- • Ability to read blueprints, perform material calculations, and use GPS dozer controls and laser levels
- • Knowledge of excavation safety systems, trenching procedures, and hazard recognition
- • Capable of basic equipment inspections and preventative maintenance; able to complete machine load charts
- • Able to work nights when needed, travel to job site with reliable transportation, and follow site safety rules
- • Physically able to lift/push/pull 50+ lbs, squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces
Qualifications
- • Minimum 18 years of age
- • 3+ years heavy equipment operator experience (commercial/civil/marine)
- • Able to use a laser level and GPS navigation systems
- • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to/from site
- • Proof of identity and authorization to work in the U.S.; able to pass background/drug screen
- • Ability to meet attendance requirements, work independently, and follow direction
