About This Role

Heavy Equipment Operator needed in Charlotte, NC to support concrete foundation and site work on commercial projects. You’ll run excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors and trenching equipment, perform excavation and grading, and handle material movement for footing and foundation work. This is a hands-on role — step out of equipment to assist carpentry and foundation crews, perform daily equipment checks, and follow strict jobsite safety practices. Pay is based on experience and capabilities; schedule and assignments are project-driven on commercial job sites in the Charlotte area.

What You'll Do

  • Operate skid steers, excavators (trackhoes), loaders, compactors and small trenching equipment for excavation, grading, trenching and backfill
  • Support concrete foundation tasks including footing and grade prep, compaction, material handling and placement
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, refueling and report defects or safety concerns
  • Step out of equipment to assist carpentry/foundation crews with site prep, layout support, formwork, material handling and cleanup
  • Load, move and place aggregate, spoils, forms/material bundles, tools and supplies safely and efficiently
  • Work with foremen and subcontractors to maintain schedule and quality while following all site safety protocols during pours and traffic operations

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years operating excavators, skid steers, loaders and similar equipment on commercial construction sites
  • Hands-on experience supporting concrete foundation work: excavation, footing/grade prep, backfill and compaction
  • Strong safety awareness working around crews, trucks and active pours; follow all jobsite safety procedures
  • Ability to perform general labor outside equipment operation, lift up to 50 lbs, and work long hours outdoors in varied weather
  • Reliable transportation to Charlotte job sites, punctual attendance, and ability to follow layout/grade instructions

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 certification required
  • 3+ years of commercial heavy equipment operation experience (excavator, skid steer, loader)
  • Ability to read basic blueprints/site layouts and follow grade requirements (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Charlotte job sites
