Heavy Equipment Operator

About This Role

Seeking experienced heavy equipment operators in Montgomery, Alabama for site work and civil construction projects. You will operate dozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers and forklifts to support excavation, grading, paving, and material handling on active construction sites across the Montgomery area. This is hands-on work: run equipment safely, maintain machines, follow grade plans and GPS guidance, and work with crews to finish jobs on schedule. What You'll Do

  • Operate dozers, excavators, motor graders, loaders, skid steers, scrapers and forklifts safely and efficiently on active sites
  • Perform site prep, excavation, grading, trenching, loading/unloading and material placement for civil and paving projects
  • Use GPS rover/navigation and grade control systems to meet grade and alignment requirements
  • Conduct pre- and post-shift equipment inspections; perform routine maintenance and report defects
  • Assist paving crews as screed operator or support role when needed; coordinate with spotters and ground crew
  • Load and haul material using dump trucks and transfer equipment as required

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years operating heavy equipment on civil construction or paving projects (dozer, excavator, grader, loader, skid steer, scraper, dump truck)
  • Hands-on maintenance skills including diesel and gasoline engine care, transmission, powertrain and general heavy equipment maintenance
  • Experience with paving equipment, screed operation, and working from GPS grade control or GPS rover systems
  • Able to load/unload materials, use signaling procedures, and follow site safety protocols (flagging, spotter coordination)
  • Reliable transportation to job sites, valid driver's license, ability to pass DOT physical and drug screen, flexible to work overtime when needed

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; CDL Class B or A preferred
  • OSHA 10 (required) or OSHA 30 preferred
  • DOT physical and ability to pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Operator certifications (NCCER or equivalent) and GPS/grade-control experience preferred
  • English required for safety/communication; Spanish a plus
