Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
We are hiring Heavy Equipment Operators in Montgomery, AL for civil construction and site work projects. You’ll run dozers, excavators, graders, loaders and other heavy machines to support excavation, grading, paving prep and material handling across active job sites in the Montgomery area. This is hands-on field work. Expect full days on site, time outdoors in all weather, and close coordination with foremen and crew for safe, on-schedule progress. Candidates should have solid equipment experience and the ability to perform basic maintenance and pre-op inspections.
What you'll do
- • Operate dozers, excavators, motor graders, loaders, skid steers, scrapers and dump trucks for excavation, grading, hauling and site preparation
- • Load and unload materials, place fill, spread base, and assist paving crews and screed operators as directed
- • Perform pre-start inspections and daily maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, basic repairs); report larger issues promptly
- • Use GPS rover/grade control equipment and read grade stakes, plans or survey marks for accurate grading work
- • Follow site safety procedures, traffic control, and direction from foremen; maintain a clean, organized work area
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience operating dozers, excavators, graders, loaders, skid steers and dump trucks on civil or site work projects
- • Hands-on knowledge of heavy-equipment maintenance including diesel/gas engine basics, powertrain and transmission care
- • Experience with loading/unloading material, scraper operation, and safe rigging/spotting
- • Familiarity with GPS grade control, GPS rover operation, and reading grade stakes and plans
- • Ability to work full days on active construction sites in variable weather and lift/manage material as required
- • Strong emphasis on safe operation, following signals, and communicating with crew and supervision
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
- • Ability to pass drug and background screening where required
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) or site-specific safety training completion
- • CDL Class A (preferred) or experience driving heavy trucks and dump trucks
- • Equipment-specific certifications or documented operator training a plus
- • Proficient English for site safety communication; Spanish speakers encouraged to apply
