Heavy Equipment Operator - Austin, TX (Per Diem)
About This Role
Join our crew in Austin as a per diem Heavy Equipment Operator supporting data center site work. You’ll run excavators, bulldozers, loaders and other heavy machines to move dirt, set grades, and prepare pads and trenches for commercial data projects. This is hands-on, physical work where safety and precision matter. You’ll perform routine maintenance, daily safety checks, and follow site plans and supervisor directions. We need experienced operators who work steadily in fast-paced job sites, enforce safety procedures, and keep equipment ready to go for daily assignments and short-term projects.
What You'll Do
- • Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, dump trucks and scrapers to complete grading, trenching and site-prep tasks
- • Perform daily pre-start inspections, routine maintenance, fueling and basic repairs to keep equipment safe and operational
- • Follow site plans, grade stakes and supervisor instructions to hit elevation and layout requirements for data center construction
- • Load/unload materials, move spoils, and assist with excavation/trench work while maintaining a clean, organized work area
- • Enforce safety procedures on site, use PPE, and report hazards or equipment issues immediately
- • Coordinate with ground crew and truck drivers to sequence lifts, dumps and machine movements efficiently
What We're Looking For
- • Proven heavy equipment operation experience on commercial or data center sites (excavator, dozer, loader, skid steer, backhoe)
- • Hands-on general heavy equipment maintenance skills and ability to perform safety checks
- • Ability to read basic site layout, grade stakes and follow supervisor instructions precisely
- • Experience with excavation/trench work and working around utilities and foundations
- • Physical stamina for long days outdoors and ability to work in variable weather; reliable transportation to Austin
- • Familiarity enforcing safety procedures and following jobsite rules; CDL Class A preferred for dump truck duties
Qualifications
- • Valid driver's license; CDL Class A preferred
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) or equivalent safety training
- • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
- • Equipment-specific certifications or operator cards a plus
- • English required for safety communication; Spanish helpful
