Heavy Equipment Operator

South Boston, VA $23-$30/hr

About this role

We are hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to work on grading and site development projects in South Boston, VA. Operators will run dozers and excavators on heavy civil jobs, perform daily equipment checks, and support crews to keep projects on schedule. This is hands-on, full-time site work. You’ll work under the direction of a foreman, follow site safety rules, perform routine maintenance on assigned machines, and help with manual tasks when needed. Strong safety habits and teamwork are required; opportunities for skill development and advancement are available for reliable operators.

What you'll do

  • Operate dozers and excavators safely and efficiently on grading and site-development projects
  • Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting on assigned equipment
  • Grade to stakes and plans; assist surveyors and follow layout instructions
  • Support crew with manual labor tasks (moving material, shoring, cleanup) as needed
  • Report equipment issues, complete shift logs, and follow foreman/supervisor directions
  • Follow all site safety policies and wear required PPE at all times

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience operating dozers and/or excavators on heavy civil projects
  • Proven ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and basic repairs
  • Comfortable reading grade stakes, basic site plans, and following grade instructions
  • Strong commitment to safety, attendance, and working as part of a crew
  • Reliable transportation to the South Boston jobsite and ability to work full-time on-site
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to pass a drug test and background check

Qualifications

  • OSHA-10 or equivalent safety training preferred
  • Equipment operator certification (NCCER or similar) a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • English sufficient for safe communication on-site; bilingual candidates encouraged to apply
