Heavy Equipment Operator

Huntsville, AL $22-$28/hr

About this role

We are hiring experienced heavy equipment operators to run earthmoving and construction machinery on projects throughout the North Alabama region. Work will include excavation, grading, material handling and site cleanup on commercial and civil construction jobs based out of Huntsville, AL. This role is hands-on and safety-first: you’ll follow site signals and procedures, perform daily equipment inspections and light maintenance, and travel to job sites across North Alabama. Candidates should be dependable, safety-minded, and able to operate multiple types of heavy equipment on varied job sites.

What you'll do

  • Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, skid steers and other heavy equipment for excavation, grading, paving prep and material handling
  • Load and unload materials; operate dump trucks, scrapers and forklifts as needed on site
  • Perform daily pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and basic hydraulic and diesel engine maintenance
  • Follow site safety procedures, hand signals and traffic control; participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings
  • Assist with demolition, site cleanup and placement of materials according to job plans
  • Communicate with foremen and crew members to keep projects on schedule and report equipment issues promptly

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3+ years operating heavy equipment on civil or commercial construction sites
  • Proven experience with dozer, excavator, loader, grader and skid steer operations; experience with paving equipment and scrapers preferred
  • Hands-on maintenance skills: hydraulic checks, routine diesel engine troubleshooting and general equipment upkeep
  • Ability to read basic grade stakes, follow construction plans and use common site signals
  • Reliable transportation to reach Huntsville job sites and ability to travel across North Alabama as required
  • Strong safety record and ability to follow PPE and site-specific safety rules

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to drive to multiple job sites
  • CDL Class A or B preferred for candidates who will operate haul/dump trucks
  • OSHA 10 (preferred) or willingness to obtain site safety certifications
  • Forklift, grader or equipment-specific certifications a plus
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; able to pass drug screen and background check
