Heavy Equipment Operator
About This Role
Heavy Equipment Operators needed for projects based in Indianapolis with work across Indiana and Ohio. You’ll operate dozers, excavators, graders, loaders and other construction machines to move earth, prep sites, and support paving and demolition work. This is hands-on work — expect travel between job sites, routine machine maintenance, and following site safety and grade instructions. Ideal candidates have solid equipment experience, basic diesel/hydraulic maintenance skills, and a focus on doing the job safely and efficiently.
What You'll Do
- • Safely operate dozers, excavators, graders, loaders, skid steers, scrapers and dump trucks for earthmoving, grading, paving prep and demolition tasks
- • Load and unload materials, move fill and set grades according to site plans and foreman instructions
- • Perform routine heavy equipment checks and basic maintenance (hydraulics, diesel engine, fluid levels, greasing)
- • Follow site safety plans, flagging and traffic control when required; report hazards and equipment issues
- • Support general construction tasks: site clean-up, assisting other trades, and setting up/tearing down equipment
- • Communicate with crew and foremen on progress, delays and machine needs
What We're Looking For
- • Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment: grader, dozer, excavator, loader, backhoe, skid steer, scraper and dump truck
- • Hands-on experience with heavy equipment diesel and hydraulic maintenance and troubleshooting
- • Experience in civil construction, paving, grading and demolition site work
- • Ability to read grade stakes, basic site plans and follow foreman directions
- • Able to travel to job sites across Indiana and Ohio and work full shifts on-site
- • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, lift materials, and work in all weather conditions
Qualifications
- • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to/from crew dispatch points
- • CDL Class A or B preferred (but not required for all roles)
- • OSHA 10-hour (preferred) or similar safety training
- • Certifications in heavy equipment operation (NCCER or manufacturer/operator certifications) are a plus
- • Experience with diesel engine and hydraulic system maintenance
- • Authorized to work in the United States
