Heavy Equipment Operator (Motor Grader)

About this role

Experienced heavy equipment operators needed in Damascus, VA to run motor graders for finish and fine grading. Work will focus on producing smooth final surfaces, accurate slopes, and meeting grade tolerances on civil and paving projects. Candidates must have a solid track record of finish grading with motor graders and be comfortable working outdoors on multi-week assignments. Daily per diem is provided while on assignment; travel and layover support available when required.

What you'll do

• • Operate motor graders for fine/finish grading to plans, grade stakes, and stringlines
• • Set blade pitch, slope and crown adjustments to achieve specified tolerances and smooth surfaces
• • Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
• • Read and follow grade stakes, plan elevations, and work with survey crews to verify grades
• • Follow site safety procedures, maintain clear communication with crew and supervisors
• • Assist with equipment moves, loading/unloading, and coordinating with other heavy equipment operators

What we're looking for

• • Minimum 5+ years' experience operating motor graders and other heavy equipment
• • Proven finish grading ability and experience achieving tight grade tolerances
• • Hands-on experience with dozer, loader, excavator, skid steer, and dump truck operations preferred
• • Ability to read grade stakes, basic plans, and use slope/laser controls
• • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Damascus, VA; ability to travel and work in varying weather conditions

Qualifications

• • 5+ years of heavy equipment operation with specific motor grader/finish grading experience
• • Equipment operator certification or vocational training preferred
• • OSHA 10 (or higher) preferred
• • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
• • Proficient English for safety communications; additional languages a plus
• • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required
