Join a local construction crew in Williamsburg, VA as a Motor Grader Operator. You'll run graders and other heavy machines on roadwork, paving, excavation, and pipe projects while keeping jobs on schedule and operating safely. This role involves operating multiple types of equipment, performing daily maintenance, reading plans with foremen, and following site safety procedures. We promote from within — reliable operators who learn and perform well can move up to lead or foreman roles.

What You'll Do

  • Operate graders, dozers, pavers, backhoes, excavators and loaders for grading, paving, excavation and pipe-laying tasks.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift inspections; clean, grease, oil and refuel equipment and report defects.
  • Adjust controls and attachments (blades, buckets, booms) to meet specs and maintain correct grades.
  • Review blueprints and work plans with the field manager; follow grade stakes and set up layout as required.
  • Maintain a safe worksite: follow PPE rules, traffic control, flagging and company safety procedures.
  • Report equipment issues, perform basic troubleshooting and assist mechanics with repairs when needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 1 year operating heavy construction equipment; proven grader experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes and basic site layouts.
  • Hands-on knowledge of preventive maintenance and basic heavy equipment upkeep.
  • Physically able to work outdoors in varied weather and perform manual tasks.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 (preferred) or OSHA 30 a plus.
  • NCCER equipment operator card or equivalent certification preferred.
  • CDL Class A or B preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic English proficiency for reading plans and communicating on site.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay (DOE) with regular overtime opportunities.
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match and paid holidays.
  • Paid training, boot/uniform allowance, and tools/equipment provided as needed.
  • Clear advancement path with internal promotion and skills training.
