Heavy Equipment Operator
About This Role
Join a busy industrial construction crew in Franklin, TN as a Heavy Equipment Operator. You’ll run excavators, dozers, skid steers, backhoes, motor graders and vibratory compactors to move and grade earth, set up jobsites, and support concrete and pavement work. This is a per diem/travel position — expect temporary travel to regional projects. We’re looking for experienced operators (3+ years preferred) who follow safety rules, keep equipment maintained, and work clean in a drug-free environment. Industrial construction experience is a plus. If you’re reliable, travel-ready, and skilled with multiple pieces of equipment, this job is for you.
What You'll Do
- • Operate excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, motor graders and vibratory compactors to excavate, move and grade earth.
- • Set grade, assist with layout, place and finish subgrade, and support concrete or pavement crews as directed.
- • Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure safe operation.
- • Read basic plans, follow supervisor directions, and use hand signals or radio communication on site.
- • Adhere to all safety procedures, wear PPE, and maintain a drug-free work environment.
- • Travel to and work at regional industrial job sites; follow per diem and travel instructions for overnight assignments.
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 3 years operating heavy equipment in construction; industrial construction experience preferred.
- • Proven ability to operate excavator, dozer, backhoe, skid steer, motor grader and vibratory compactor.
- • Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- • Know and enforce jobsite safety rules; able to pass post-offer drug screen and follow a drug-free policy.
- • Physically able to climb equipment, work outdoors in varying weather, and lift up to job-required weights.
- • Willingness to travel and work per diem on regional projects; reliable transportation to pickup location.
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
- • OSHA 10-hour construction card preferred (OSHA 30 a plus)
- • NCCER or other heavy equipment operator certification preferred
- • Ability to pass DOT physical and pre-employment drug screen
- • Comfortable reading basic site plans and following standard hand signals
