Heavy Equipment Operator — Machine Control (Per Diem)
About this role
Per-diem Heavy Equipment Operator needed in Shreveport, LA to run heavy equipment using GPS-based machine control systems on construction sites. You will follow digital models and grade plans to complete grading, excavation and site layout tasks across short-term projects. This role is per-diem and often requires travel and overnight stays. You’ll work closely with site crews and survey teams to verify elevations, control points and as-built documentation while maintaining equipment and daily logs.
What you'll do
- • Operate graders, dozers, excavators and other heavy equipment using GPS/machine-control guidance.
- • Set up, calibrate and troubleshoot machine-control units and GPS rovers on site.
- • Execute grading and excavation per digital models, plans and stakeout points.
- • Coordinate daily with surveyors and site crews to confirm offsets, elevations and layout changes.
- • Perform pre-shift equipment inspections, routine maintenance and secure machines at shift end.
- • Keep accurate daily logs, machine reports and as-built notes for project records.
What we're looking for
- • Hands-on experience operating grader, dozer or excavator with GPS/machine-control guidance or equivalent field experience.
- • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grade plans and digital models.
- • Experience with land surveying, site layout and using GPS rover/navigation tools.
- • Available for per-diem, away-from-home assignments and travel to remote job sites.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from dispatch point.
- • Physically able to perform heavy-equipment operations and follow site safety procedures.
Qualifications
- • OSHA 10-hour construction card (preferred).
- • Formal machine-control or GPS systems training/certification (preferred).
- • Previous survey crew or land surveying experience.
- • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred for some assignments.
- • English — conversational; additional language skills are a plus.
