Excavator Operator — Mainline Pipe Crew

About This Role

Join a Mainline Pipe Crew in Largo, MD as an Excavator Operator handling heavy civil work on water, sewer, and storm drain projects. You’ll run large hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar) for trenching, grading and mass earthwork while following OSHA and site safety rules. This is hands-on work in the field: expect physically demanding tasks, varied weather, and a team environment. Pay is $28.00–$35.00 per hour based on experience. Candidates must have at least 3 years of heavy civil excavation experience and a valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.

What You'll Do

  • Operate large hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar) for trenching, grading, slope work and mass excavation
  • Excavate and shape trenches for water, sewer and storm drainage mainline pipe installations to plan elevations and tolerances
  • Read and follow construction plans, grade stakes and laser levels; assist with GPS/machine control setup when required
  • Perform daily pre-start inspections, routine equipment maintenance, and report mechanical issues promptly
  • Follow site safety plans, trenching/excavation safety procedures and OSHA requirements; use PPE and required safety equipment
  • Work closely with foremen, pipe crews and operators to maintain productivity and meet schedule targets

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years operating excavators on heavy civil projects (utilities, site development, mass excavation)
  • Proven experience with Cat 330/336/349 or similar large excavators
  • Ability to read construction plans, grade stakes and use laser levels; GPS machine control experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge of trenching safety, soil conditions and excavation techniques
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL (Class A) strongly preferred
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license (required)
  • CDL Class A (preferred)
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour card (preferred)
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems (preferred)
  • Ability to pass drug screening and background check
  • English required; Spanish or other language skills helpful on diverse crews
