Heavy Equipment Operator — Excavator (Jessup, MD)

About This Role

Join a heavy civil crew as an Excavator Operator on Mainline Pipe or Mass Excavation projects in Jessup, MD. You’ll run hydraulic excavators (Cat 330/336/349 or similar) for trenching, utility excavation, bulk earthmoving and grading on large-scale jobs. Work is outdoors, physically demanding, and focused on safe, efficient production. Pay is $28.00–$35.00/hr depending on experience. Candidates must have at least three years operating excavators on site development, utility installation, or large excavation projects.

What You'll Do

• • Operate hydraulic excavators (Cat 330, 336, 349 or similar) for digging, trenching, slope work and grading.
• • Excavate and shape trenches and trenches for water, sewer and storm drainage (mainline pipe) or perform bulk earthmoving and mass grading operations.
• • Read and follow construction plans, grade stakes, laser levels and site layout instructions to meet grade and alignment requirements.
• • Use GPS machine control and laser/transit instruments (when provided) to achieve precise cut/fill and line work.
• • Perform daily pre-shift equipment inspections, basic maintenance and report mechanical issues to shop/lead.
• • Work with crew members, foremen and flaggers to maintain safe, productive job sites and follow OSHA/site safety procedures.

What We're Looking For

• • Minimum 3 years operating hydraulic excavators in heavy civil construction (site development, utilities, or large-scale excavation).
• • Hands-on experience with mainline pipe installation or mass excavation preferred.
• • Ability to read plans, grade stakes and operate laser levels; GPS machine control experience is a plus.
• • Strong knowledge of trenching, excavation techniques, soil conditions and trench safety practices.
• • Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather and handle climbing on/off heavy equipment safely.
• • Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL is a plus. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Qualifications

• • Minimum 3 years excavator/operator experience in heavy civil construction.
• • Valid state driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred.
• • OSHA 10-hour (preferred) or OSHA 30-hour card is a plus.
• • Equipment operator certification (NCCER or equivalent) is preferred.
• • Clean drug test and background check required.
• • Familiarity with GPS machine control and laser/level/transit equipment is a plus.
