About This Role

Join a heavy civil paving crew in Malvern, PA as an Asphalt Screed Operator supporting roadway and commercial projects. You’ll run and maintain the screed on asphalt pavers to meet mat thickness, grade, and smoothness specs while working closely with the paving crew and foreman. This is hands-on field work in an outdoor, project-driven environment. Expect early starts, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed. Strong safety habits, reliable attendance, and the ability to work in changing weather conditions are required.

What You'll Do

  • Operate asphalt paver screed to achieve specified mat thickness, grade, and surface smoothness
  • Adjust screed controls (manual or automated) and monitor material flow to maintain consistent mat quality
  • Check grade, slope and depth using hand tools or automated grade control systems; communicate adjustments to the paver operator
  • Perform routine cleaning, inspections and basic maintenance on screed components and report equipment issues
  • Work with the paving crew to handle material loading/unloading, joint matching, and general site duties; follow site safety procedures

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2+ years operating asphalt screed on roadway or commercial projects
  • Solid understanding of asphalt paving methods, materials and paving equipment
  • Able to read and follow job specifications, grade sheets and foreman instructions
  • Comfortable working outdoors in hot asphalt conditions, noise and variable weather
  • Available for project-driven schedules including early mornings, nights, weekends and overtime
  • Physically fit for construction work: standing, walking, lifting, bending for extended periods

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required
  • OSHA 10 (or OSHA 30) preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with automated screed or grade control systems is a plus
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Clear communication skills in English for crew coordination and safety
