MD $24-$26/hr

About This Role

Join a paving crew in Maryland operating asphalt pavers, rollers, milling machines, backhoes and skid steers to complete milling and paving projects safely and on schedule. You’ll work from daily plans set by the field manager, run equipment efficiently, and help the crew hit production targets. This role emphasizes safe operation, routine non-mechanical upkeep (cleaning, greasing, fluid checks), clear communication with crew members, and reporting equipment issues. Pay is $24.00–$26.00/hour based on experience.

What You'll Do

  • Operate asphalt pavers, rollers, milling machines, backhoes, skid steers and other assigned heavy equipment during milling and paving operations.
  • Discuss daily plans with the field manager and execute work methods that prioritize safety, productivity and on-time completion.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift checks and basic non-mechanical maintenance: cleaning, greasing, topping fluids and reporting issues.
  • Communicate clearly with crew members and spotters to coordinate materials, traffic control and task sequencing.
  • Follow site layout and grade instructions to achieve required surface grades and compaction targets.
  • Keep the work area tidy—assist with site clean up, material loading/unloading and equipment staging when needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience operating paving and milling equipment on construction or road projects (commercial or municipal).
  • Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance and report mechanical problems promptly.
  • Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills; able to take direction from field manager and coordinate with crew.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and performing physical tasks for full shifts.
  • Familiarity with site layout, traffic control basics and enforcing safety procedures around heavy equipment.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality and willingness to work overtime when project schedules demand.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license; clean driving record required
  • CDL Class A or B preferred but not required
  • OSHA 10 (or equivalent) preferred
  • Flagger certification and other traffic control credentials are a plus
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and background check; English conversational, Spanish a plus

What We Offer

  • $24.00 - $26.00 per hour (based on experience)
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Paid vacation and paid holidays
  • Annual performance bonus program
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Consistent, local paving work with overtime opportunities
