Heavy Equipment Operator

About this role

Join a paving crew in Maryland operating asphalt pavers, rollers, milling machines, backhoes and skid steers on milling and paving projects. You’ll work outdoors, follow the field manager’s plan each day, and coordinate with crew members to meet project goals safely and on schedule. This role requires hands-on equipment operation and routine non-mechanical maintenance — cleaning, greasing and fluid checks — plus clear communication with the crew. If you take safety seriously, can keep equipment running and meet productivity targets, this job is a fit.

What you'll do

• • Operate asphalt pavers, rollers, milling machines, backhoes and skid steers during milling and paving operations.
• • Review daily plans with the field manager and determine the safest, most productive method to complete assigned work.
• • Perform non-mechanical equipment upkeep: cleaning, greasing, checking and topping off fluid levels.
• • Maintain a safe work area and operate equipment with priority on crew safety and jobsite traffic control.
• • Communicate clearly with crew members and other trades to coordinate material handling and workflow.
• • Follow daily work plans and meet productivity and quality targets for assigned tasks.

What we're looking for

• • Proven experience operating paving and earthmoving equipment on road projects.
• • Able to perform preventive maintenance inspections and basic upkeep on equipment.
• • Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills on site.
• • Knowledge of site layout, material handling, loading/unloading and basic traffic control.
• • Physically able to work outdoors in variable weather and meet the demands of the job.
• • Commitment to following and enforcing site safety procedures.

Qualifications

• • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• • OSHA 10 or other safety training preferred
• • Equipment operator certifications (preferred)
• • High school diploma or equivalent
• • Fluent in English for safety and crew communication
