Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
Join a mid-Atlantic paving team as a Heavy Equipment Operator in Philadelphia. You’ll run asphalt pavers, rollers, milling machines, backhoes and skid steers on roadway projects, focusing on safe, productive shifts that keep traffic moving and projects on schedule. This role requires night and weekend availability and occasional overnight travel. We value clear communication, basic equipment upkeep, and a commitment to returning home safe each day. Training and advancement are available for operators who show skill and reliability.
What you'll do
- • Safely operate asphalt pavers, asphalt rollers, milling machines, backhoes and skid steers during milling and paving operations.
- • Perform non-mechanical maintenance: cleaning, greasing, checking and topping fluids, and basic equipment upkeep before and after shifts.
- • Review daily plans with field manager, follow instructions for job layout and coordinate methods to complete assigned work on time.
- • Communicate clearly with crew members and flaggers to maintain teamwork and site safety while working adjacent to live traffic.
- • Follow site safety procedures, enforce safe work practices around equipment, and work night and weekend shifts as scheduled; travel and overnight stays may be required.
What we're looking for
- • Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience on milling and paving projects.
- • Proven ability to operate pavers, rollers, milling machines, backhoes and skid steers safely and productively.
- • Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel and stay overnight when needed.
- • Available to work nights, weekends and extended shifts during paving season.
- • Good hand-eye coordination, ability to perform physically demanding tasks and lift up to 75 lbs; able to climb, kneel, reach and balance on equipment.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED preferred
- • Valid driver’s license (required)
- • 2+ years operating experience with paving/milling equipment
- • OSHA 10 or similar safety training preferred
- • Traffic control/flagger certification preferred
