Heavy Equipment Operator — Paving/Milling

About This Role

Join a paving and milling crew working in and around Richmond, VA. Immediate openings for experienced heavy equipment operators to run pavers, milling machines, rollers and other asphalt equipment. Pay range is $24-$40/hr depending on experience and machine skills. This is hands-on roadwork: asphalt placement, milling, compaction and grade work. You’ll work with a small crew, maintain your machine, follow grade/line, and keep projects moving on schedule. Ideal for dependable operators who know asphalt, rollers, and heavy equipment basics.

What You'll Do

• • Operate pavers and milling machines for asphalt placement and removal.
• • Run rollers to achieve specified compaction and finish on driveways, streets, and parking lots.
• • Operate graders, loaders, dozers and excavators as job needs dictate; move and load materials.
• • Perform daily pre-start checks, basic maintenance and report defects; keep machines clean and fueled.
• • Read grade stakes/strings, follow foreman directions, and coordinate with crew to meet line and grade requirements.

What We're Looking For

• • Proven paving equipment operator experience — pavers and milling machines preferred.
• • Skilled in roller operation and experience with grader, loader, dozer and excavator operation.
• • Able to read grade stakes, use hand tools, and follow site plans and foreman instructions.
• • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites; able to pass drug test and background check.
• • Physically fit for outdoor work in all weather; able to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long shifts. Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• • Valid driver’s license; clean driving record preferred.
• • OSHA-10 or equivalent safety training preferred; safety certifications encouraged.
• • CDL (A or B) and flagging certification are a plus but not required.
• • English required; Spanish speaker a plus. Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen.
