Forklift / Telehandler Operator (PEMB Erection)

About This Role

Experienced forklift/telehandler operators needed nationwide to support PEMB (pre-engineered metal building) and structural steel erection crews. You’ll work on active commercial and industrial sites operating rough-terrain forklifts and telehandlers to move, stage, and position steel, panels, insulation, and rigging gear per lift plans. This is hands-on, outdoor work in varying weather and terrain. You’ll inspect equipment daily, maintain organized laydown areas, communicate with ironworkers/crane crews via radio and hand signals, and follow OSHA/site safety and PPE rules. Travel to job sites and overtime may be required.

What You'll Do

  • Operate rough-terrain forklifts, telehandlers, and material-handling equipment to load, unload, transport, and stage PEMB and structural steel per lift plans
  • Position materials for erection crews and assist with rigging, signaling, and safe material placement
  • Perform daily pre-shift equipment inspections, log/report issues, and follow maintenance guidance
  • Maintain organized laydown yards, stage materials by priority, and verify materials against packing slips
  • Communicate with supervisors, crane operators, and ground crews using radios and hand signals
  • Adhere to OSHA and site safety protocols, use required PPE, and enforce safe work practices around heavy equipment

What We're Looking For

  • Previous forklift/telehandler experience on construction sites (rough-terrain operation required)
  • Ability to follow lift plans, rigging procedures, and basic signaling methods
  • Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, standing/climbing/bending for long periods, and working at heights when required
  • Reliable transportation, punctual attendance, and ability to travel to job sites nationwide
  • Basic reading skills to verify material tags, packing slips, and site paperwork
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions and accept overtime/weekend work as project demands

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Forklift/telehandler certification (NCCCO, manufacturer, or equivalent) preferred
  • OSHA 10 (required) or OSHA 30 (preferred)
  • NCCER or related construction credential a plus
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • English required; Spanish or other language skills are a plus
