Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
We’re hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators in the Raleigh, NC area to run excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers and skid steers on commercial and public-works jobs. You’ll work on excavation, grading, paving prep, concrete support and general site material handling on projects across the Raleigh region. This is hands-on work — you must be safe, punctual, and able to read civil drawings and follow site layout. Pay is competitive and based on experience; steady local routes and multiple project types give opportunity for overtime and skill growth.
What you'll do
- • Safely operate excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers, skid steers and other heavy equipment for excavation, grading, backfill and material handling
- • Support concrete operations: placement, pouring, formwork support, finishing and curing protection as directed
- • Perform site layout and set grade per civil drawings; assist with rigging, barricades and temporary shoring when required
- • Assist with paving prep and asphalt/concrete repair work, plus demolition and debris handling as needed
- • Follow site safety procedures, maintain daily equipment checks, and report maintenance needs
- • Communicate with foremen, follow work schedules, inspect completed work and help train less-experienced crew members
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment on active job sites (excavation, grading, material handling)
- • Hands-on concrete experience (placement/pouring, finishing, formwork, reinforcing, curing/protection) and basic paving knowledge
- • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, site layout and tickets; perform accurate grade work
- • Knowledge of rigging, demolition safety, scaffolding basics, and ability to perform work inspections
- • Reliable transportation, strong attendance, ability to work overtime and varied schedules
- • Commitment to site safety, PPE use, and following directions from foremen and supervisors
Qualifications
- • Valid driver's license required; clean driving record preferred
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) or willingness to obtain; flagger certification a plus
- • Heavy equipment/operator certifications (e.g., NCCER or employer-specific cards) preferred
- • Experience with concrete trade tasks: concrete reinforcing, formwork carpentry, finishing and curing in varying conditions
- • Ability to read civil drawings and perform site layout; basic rigging knowledge
- • Able to pass background and drug screening; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
What we offer
- • Competitive pay (based on experience) with opportunities for overtime
- • Steady local work across Raleigh area — multiple project types (roads, site work, concrete, paving)
- • Paid holidays and vacation accrual (where offered) and weekly payroll
- • On-the-job training and chance to advance to foreman or lead roles
- • Safety gear provided and a safety-first crew culture
