Heavy Equipment Operator - Southeast (Travel)
About This Role
Heavy Equipment Operator based in the Southeast — travel required. We need experienced hands who can operate dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, skid steers, backhoes and dump trucks across multiple project sites in the region. You’ll work on civil construction projects, follow site plans, and keep equipment running safely and on schedule. This is regional work with frequent travel between job sites across the Southeast. Competitive pay (DOE) plus travel pay and per diem, overtime opportunities, and steady assignments for reliable operators. Must be ready to move between sites, adapt to changing conditions, and work weekdays with occasional nights or weekend shifts.
What You'll Do
- • Operate heavy equipment (dozer, excavator, loader, grader, skid steer, backhoe, dump truck, forklift) safely and efficiently on civil construction projects
- • Travel regularly to different project sites across the Southeast and report on time with required gear
- • Load and unload materials, secure loads, and assist with truck spotting and traffic flows on site
- • Perform routine equipment inspections and general maintenance; report defects and coordinate repairs
- • Set up and follow traffic control/flagging procedures and communicate with crew and supervisors about site conditions
- • Read basic site plans, follow directions from foremen, and keep accurate time and equipment logs
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 2–4 years operating heavy equipment in civil construction or similar field
- • Proven experience with loading/unloading material and operating dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks and forklifts
- • Comfortable performing basic maintenance and daily equipment inspections
- • Familiarity with traffic control and flagging procedures and safe work zone practices
- • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the Southeast and work variable schedules
- • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation to get to reporting locations, and ability to pass a drug screen and background check
Qualifications
- • CDL Class A preferred but not always required depending on role
- • OSHA 10 (preferred) or OSHA 30 (a plus)
- • Flagger/traffic control certification (ATSSA or state equivalent) preferred
- • Forklift certification preferred and equipment-specific operator credentials a plus
- • Ability to read basic English for safety briefings and follow verbal instructions
- • Willingness to submit to pre-employment drug screen and periodic testing
