Heavy Equipment Operator — Motor Grader (Abilene, TX)
About This Role
Join a hands-on grading crew in Abilene, TX as a Motor Grader Operator. You’ll run a motor grader on roads, site prep, and maintenance projects—setting grades, shaping surfaces, and working with a small crew to finish jobs on schedule. This is steady, local construction work with competitive pay (DOE), overtime available, and benefits. We want experienced, safety-minded operators who keep machines maintained and work tough Texas conditions without fuss.
What You'll Do
- • Operate motor grader to cut, shape, and finish dirt and gravel roads, shoulders, and site pads
- • Set and check grade using stringline, laser, GPS, or hand measurements; follow stake and plan elevations
- • Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections; report defects and perform basic maintenance (grease, fluid checks)
- • Coordinate with operators of dozers, loaders, and trucks to sequence work and move material efficiently
- • Follow traffic control plans, direct traffic when required, and maintain a clean, safe work area
What We're Looking For
- • 2+ years operating motor graders or similar heavy equipment on roadwork or site grading projects
- • Ability to read basic grade stakes, plans, and follow foreman directions on-line
- • Comfort working outdoors in all weather; able to climb in/out of cabs repeatedly and lift 50 lbs as needed
- • Dependable transportation to jobsite, punctual, and able to work a full shift with overtime when required
- • Willingness to follow safety rules, wear PPE, and participate in toolbox talks
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and good driving record; CDL Class A preferred but not required
- • OSHA 10-hour construction card or willingness to obtain
- • Proof of equipment training or documented work history on motor graders
- • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- • High school diploma or GED preferred
