Heavy Equipment Operator — Dozer & Excavator
About this role
Experienced dozer and excavator operators needed for heavy civil construction projects based in Richmond, VA. Work will include site grading, underground utilities, and specialty concrete support on regional job sites. This is hands-on field work in a safety-focused, team environment. Operators will perform machine work daily, handle basic equipment upkeep, and pitch in with manual tasks as project needs dictate. Candidates should have solid dozer and/or excavator experience, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to following jobsite safety procedures. Opportunities for steady work and advancement on larger civil projects are available.
What you'll do
- • Safely operate dozers and excavators on heavy civil construction sites to meet grade and production targets
- • Perform daily pre-shift inspections, basic preventive maintenance, and report equipment issues
- • Load and unload material, assist with spreading, grading, and finish work as required
- • Support manual labor tasks (site cleanup, hand grading, trench backfill) to keep crews moving
- • Follow directions from foremen and supervisors and strictly adhere to all site safety policies and procedures
What we're looking for
- • Minimum 2 years’ hands-on experience operating dozers and/or excavators on construction sites
- • Experience in heavy civil work such as site grading, utilities, or concrete operations preferred
- • Ability to perform routine maintenance checks and basic repairs (fluid checks, track/tire inspection, greasing)
- • Comfortable assisting with manual labor and multiple equipment types (loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, graders)
- • Commitment to jobsite safety, teamwork, and following supervisor directions
Qualifications
- • Minimum 2 years operating dozers and/or excavators (documented experience preferred)
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to regional job sites
- • OSHA 10 or equivalent site safety training preferred (site-specific safety orientation provided)
- • Comfortable reading basic site instructions and communicating in English to follow safety directions
- • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings (drug test/background check) where applicable
