Heavy Equipment Operator
About This Role
We need experienced Heavy Equipment Operators in Huntsville, AL to run dozers, excavators, loaders, graders and rollers on site-prep and utility projects. Typical work is outside, full-time, with long runs of steady hours and regular overtime on larger projects. Pay is $25–$35 per hour depending on experience and certifications. You’ll be expected to handle daily equipment checks, keep machines clean and maintained, work to grade and stringline, and support ground crews to keep projects moving safely and on schedule.
What You'll Do
- • Operate dozers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, graders and rollers for site grading, trenching and material handling
- • Perform pre-shift inspections, basic maintenance, and report mechanical issues promptly
- • Read stakes/grade, follow plans, and make grade adjustments to meet project specs
- • Load/unload equipment, assist with rigging/spotting, and secure loads for transport
- • Work with foremen and crew to sequence tasks, maintain a clean work area, and follow traffic and site safety controls
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 3 years operating heavy equipment on construction sites (site prep, grading, utilities preferred)
- • Able to read grade stakes, use basic surveying references, and do simple measurements
- • Strong safe-work record — able to follow seat-belt, lockout/tagout and spotter procedures
- • Valid driver’s license; able to travel to multiple job sites in North Alabama and stay on-site when required
- • Physically fit for climbing, climbing in/out of cabs, and handling tools and chains
Qualifications
- • OSHA 10 (or OSHA 30 preferred)
- • NCCER or other equipment certification preferred but not required
- • Class A CDL or ability to obtain one preferred
- • CPR/First Aid and flagger certification are a plus
- • English required; Spanish or other language skills are a plus
