Heavy Equipment Operator
About this role
Operate a variety of heavy earthmoving equipment to support excavation, grading, demolition, and sitework for self-performed construction projects in Austin. This hands-on role focuses on safe, efficient operation of excavators, dozers, rollers, loaders and related machinery; this is not a supervisory position. You will work on local job sites with a crew, attend site safety and equipment training, and perform physically demanding tasks such as climbing on/off equipment, lifting materials, and checking grades. Candidates must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to pass pre-employment checks.
What you'll do
- • Operate excavators, dozers, rollers, loaders and skid steers for excavation, grading, demo and material handling
- • Excavate footings, foundations and trenches; backfill and fine-grade building pads
- • Demo concrete, load out material, spread rock/base materials and compact with rollers
- • Check grades, lay out and bench excavations, and install trench boxes or shoring as required
- • Perform routine equipment checks, report defects, and attend site safety and equipment training
What we're looking for
- • Proven hands-on experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders and rollers on civil/sitework projects
- • Ability to read basic grade information and follow layout instructions; good depth perception
- • Physically able to climb on/off equipment, lift up to 50 lbs, work on uneven surfaces and at heights
- • Strong focus on safety; follow written and verbal directions and site safety procedures
- • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work a full-time construction schedule with occasional overtime
- • Ability to communicate clearly on site; bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Qualifications
- • OSHA 10 (or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire)
- • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required; prior heavy equipment experience required
- • Able to pass criminal background check, drug screen, pre-employment physical and silica exam if applicable
- • Valid driver's license preferred and reliable transportation to job sites
- • English required; Spanish language skills strongly preferred
