Heavy Equipment Operator

About This Role

Operate a variety of heavy earthmoving equipment for self-performed sitework and construction projects in Austin, TX. This hands-on role focuses on safe, efficient operation of excavators, dozers, rollers, loaders and related machines to complete excavation, grading, demo, and site-prep tasks. No supervisory responsibilities. You’ll work on commercial and civil projects doing footings, trenches, pad grading, material loading and compaction. Safety training and equipment upkeep are expected; steady hours, overtime when available, and on-the-job training are provided for experienced operators who take pride in quality work.

What You'll Do

  • Excavate footings, foundations and trenches; backfill and fine-grade building pads
  • Demolish concrete and load out debris/materials using excavators or loaders
  • Spread, grade and compact rock, base and other fill; stabilize subgrade with rollers and graders
  • Check grades, lay out/bench excavations and install trench boxes/shoring as needed
  • Operate multiple machines (excavator, dozer, roller, loader, skid steer) and perform basic equipment checks
  • Attend required safety and equipment training and follow all site safety procedures

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience operating excavators, dozers, rollers and loaders on commercial/civil sites
  • Ability to read grade stakes, basic site layout and follow verbal/written instructions
  • Good depth perception, hand-eye coordination and ability to operate controls safely
  • Physically able to climb on/off equipment, lift up to 50 lbs and work on uneven terrain and at heights
  • Reliable attendance, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to Austin job sites
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical (silica exam if applicable)

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Able to pass drug screen, criminal background check and pre-employment physical
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior heavy-equipment experience required
