Heavy Equipment Operator - Tanker/Tack Truck

About This Role

Drive and maintain tanker trucks that support paving crews across Maryland. This hands-on role keeps water/tank levels correct, applies spray bituminous tack coat, and follows DOT and company rules for safe vehicle operation. Pay range is $20–26/hr depending on experience. You’ll run local and regional routes to predetermined job sites, perform daily pre/post-trip inspections, keep accurate logbooks, and coordinate with paving crews. Expect physical work, outdoor conditions, and the need to communicate site issues quickly and clearly.

What You'll Do

  • Operate tanker/tack truck to deliver water and spray bituminous tack-coat for paving crews at job sites across MD
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report defects or maintenance needs immediately
  • Maintain truck logs in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policy
  • Monitor and maintain proper water/tank levels and equipment assigned to the truck
  • Communicate site conditions, traffic issues, low bridges, or access problems to supervisors and shop

What We're Looking For

  • Valid CDL-A or CDL-B with experience operating tank/haul vehicles
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations, safe tanker operation, and vehicle logkeeping
  • Experience working with paving crews and applying tack coat or similar materials
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle checks, basic maintenance, and keep vehicles clean
  • Comfort operating manual and automatic transmissions, GPS navigation, and driving in varied road/terrain conditions

Qualifications

  • CDL-A or CDL-B (required)
  • Tanker (N) and HazMat (H) endorsements preferred
  • Valid driver's license and current DOT medical card (or ability to obtain)
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish (required)
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
